PC doesnt boot after a new graphics card install!

Thats the humble home PC i started with and ive upgraded the PSU to an Antec 650W earth watts green power supply with a 80 plus bronze rating from the previous Cooler Master 500W extreme power supply I've also upgraded the graphics card once before to a HD6670 card and the issue I'm having is with the new VisionTek R9 270X card.

The grand explanation!

I bought this card from the brick and mortar computer part store down the street and brought it home, hooked everything up, attempted to boot the PC and nothing really happened. There is a blue light bar at the top of the tower and that comes on, all the fans come on, but no video, and it doesnt seem to boot. even if i plug the monitor into the onboard graphics card there is still no video. So I went back to the store and they thought it was a PSU issue so I bought a new Antec 650W PSU and tried that. Same thing happened. Went back to the store and they thought it must be a DOA card and swapped it out for me. Brought the new R9 270X home and plugged it in, same thing keeps happening. So to summarize....

-Older PSU, new graphics card, wont boot

-New PSU, new graphics card, wont boot

-New PSU, Second new graphics card, wont boot

-New PSU, second new graphics card in PCI slot but the two 6 pins detached from the R9, boots but video only from onboard graphics card.

-New PSU, Old HD6670 graphics card, still boots and runs perfectly.

I don't have any drivers installed at the moment so it doesnt interfere with a new install...

Did you uninstall the HD 6670 card drivers or are you trying to run the cards on the previous card drivers. Uninstall the previous card drivers do a re-start on on board card, shut down the pc install the new graphic card and than than install it's drivers.

yeah there at the bottom of the message below the last bit of specs, ive wiped all graphics drivers including that catalyst crap before the install of the card into the board. However, the pc never boots, its not that its a black screen but there is just no video at all. also, when its "started up" this way when i go to shut it down, usually with the power button i have to hold it down 2-5 seconds before it shuts off, but with the r9 in, i just press it for a split second and it shuts off.

So if you getting no display total black screen from the beginning you power up your pc than that means you card is DOA, and you cannot get it to work sent it for warranty.

Hard to believe that I got TWO DOA cards but you are listed as a graphics card expert and I wont question it. Thanks bud, been messing with this damn card for a week now.

Scratch that, it wasn't DOA. took it back to the store, they threw it on a test bench, worked like a charm. Returned it, tired of messing with this thing.

If the cards work on other pc than i fear your motherboard pci-e slot has gone bad. I suggest getting a new board. r9 270x is a nice card and will perform best with any machine. Just do one thing take your pc to the shop where you took the graphic card and ask them to run any any card on your slot.

I still run my HD 6670 in the slot, opting for a complete overhaul instead of trying to cram a beautiful GPU into a store bought PC. I appreciate the help sir! The overhaul post can be found here

Can you do one thing? Try getting the specs of the test computer that shop used. And are you sure they showed the card which you gave them they could be showing you another card.

I have the same problem, miller. To me it definitely seems like something with the motherboard. Have you tried to update the MoBo's BIOS? My motherboard doesn't have a bios update so it can't recognize my 7850 (or at least that is what i think), so try that.

sorry to reply so late buddy! I scoured far and wide, and even made another forum post looking just for a BIOS update. I may be wrong but the conclusion that I came to was that the MoBo was designed by HP for just that HP computer and it was never meant to be modified. A BIOS update isnt required to make it compatible with other parts if their intent was never to have anything else put into the case. In conclusion, I just built my first computer from the ground up with the r9 290 and I am insanely happy with it.

So you had HP that was the main problem, you didn't tell me well that's great that you got it resolved. I had a dell barebone and i tried to upgrade and what do you i faced tons of problem believe me when i say tons. I just got rid of the Dell bought a non proprietary motherboard and casing and bam everything works fine.
