Hellow together I've tried to activate the 4th core of my Phenom II x3 720. (Motherboard gigabyte 790fxt-ud5p)

I've fist just set Acc to auto but it didn't help at all.

Then I've put the other setting (Ec something I dont remember the exact name) to Hybrid.

From that moment on the Pc didn't boot anymore...

I think that the 4th core was activated but didn't work so the Pc can't boot anymore.

Still I somehow panic a litle bit and thought of asking you before doing anything stupid.

I thought I have to reset the Cmos, my motherboard has a button for that but when I read about that in the Motherboard manual there's something written about replacing the battery and other complicated stuff(No electricyti..... ).

My question Is can't I just push the Cmos button to reset the bios? Do I have to connect turn on the Power supply before pushing the button?

Please explain me how to creal the Cmos. I thought it's just pushing a button but that manual really iritated me.

Thank you

Yes but my Problem is I don't know how to clear the Cmos.

Do I just have to push the button while the elecricity is flowing through the system?

I assume that with red button you mean the button on which its written: clear cmos... should i turn on the power supply before doing that?

K I've found it on another page and they said that I had to turn off the power supply first.... and then push the Clear cmos button.

I did so and the system boots again.

WoW Turn off the pc an press the red button.... wouldn't that have destroyed something because of the electricity still flowing?

LOL... sorry, i was going to elaborate but then i accedntally hit submit and i just thought
"what the hell, he will understand"
But i used to reset my mobo with the power still on...

But yeah, i would do it with the power supply unplugged

:) It really sucks when something goes wrong and you have to write the text again, happens much to often.

On my old Pc I had a Asus motherboard and after a overclock failure I just had to turn of the elecricity for 30 secs and it automatically reset the bios to default.

Now I'm asking myself if I set a to high fsb on the Gigabyte 790 fxt would it also somehow reckognize the problem and boot with normal fsb?

I think a cmos clear wouldn't help there because it doesn't change things like fsb. (right?)

When I buy a motherboard and cpu that i have never worked with before I make sure I write everything down to avoid having to play with the Bios for hours....Another thing you can do is use your Windows "notepad" and save it to your documents.

I've got a new very serious problem.

I have just installed the Xigmatec Hdt-s 1283 and the Fan of the cooler is not turning when I start the Pc.

I have cleaned the old thermal away (with alcohol) cleaned the surface of the Xigmatec applied new thermal paste (http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=170&Itemid=1&limit=1&limitstart=5)
and then mounted the fan on the cooler and connected it to the 4 pin from my motherboard (cpu_fan)

I started the Pc and (like always) all fans started to turn on 100% but the xigmatec fan was not turning. I imediately shut down the Pc (before even coming to bios).

What should I do now? Can the cooler cool the Pc well enough that I can let it come to the Bios? I'm scared that I broke the 4 pin of the Cpu when taking away the old fan (had tu pull pretty hard).

The only think I can think of is try the fan out in another pc but now my question is if I can just plug the 4 pin fan into a 3 pin connector of another pc and look if it works?

Please tell me what to do next

Erdinger

Try, connecting the CPU fan (4pin) on another pc... If it still wont spin then you have a dead fan, if it does spin then you either connected it wrong (backwards) on your current mobo or broke a pin (fan header).

Btw : dont worry about the fan not spining (heatsink) if you just want to get to the bios, but if it does not spin when you boot you will achieve nothing in the bios. Just try the heatsink fan on another motherboard and make sure you connect it to the 4 pin motherboard header like I stated above.

THANK YOU! I was to afraid even to let the system come to the bios :)
Ovrclkr said there's no danger so I went into the bios and disabled smart fan and now the fan is turning at 100%!

As I've seen in the Bios the cooler wthout the fan was already cooling the Processor to 30C (only Bios reading) so the Mobo turned out the fan because it wasn't needed!

Never underestimate a xigmatec hdt-s 1283 :)

One more question. Last time I tried to activate the 4th core the system wouldn't even boot anymore (that's why I originally opened the thread) do you think I should later on try activating the 4th core again, just with a higher Vcore and the better cooling I have now?

20% of the credit goes to me and the ther 80% goes to mugs since he solved your issue....

Im glad it worked....... 😉

We aim to please. Accuracy costs extra.

I don't know too much about the Phenoms, but you can try activating the fourth core using a higher Vcore. The fourth core on the Phenom X3s are disabled mostly because they need a higher voltage to run at the same spec as the other three cores, or because there's an actual fault that got picked up in manufacturing. Yours could be either, so give it a try.

Just a fun fact here, not trying to be an ass, but the note or blank pages are added to a document by the printer, so the pages work correctly for printing. Most presses print like 16 pages up, so if the book does not work out mathematically on exactly 16 page spreads, they add blank, or note pages to the back of the book so that it does. It is neccesary for the folding and binding of the signature sets all work out to exactly 16 pages each. If the book was formated correctly during publishing, or just happened to work out with the correct number of pages exactly before it was sent to the printer, it would have no blank or note pages.
