Hello,

First of all, I've been looking through most of the 'Can't boot with graphics card' topic but none of those describe my problem.

A few days ago I bought a new GPU and plugged it into my PCI 2.0 16x slot. When I tried to start the computer it booted for 1 second (the fans started) and then turned off again. It automaticly tries to boot again but fails over and over again. I plugged my old GPU back in and the computer did start. So I updated the BIOS version, plugged the new GPU in and suddenly it did start.

So the next day when I tried to boot the computer, the same problem occurred. So people suggested to buy a new PSU, which I did
(Seasonic G-550W). I installed it, and it booted just like expected. Played Battlefield 4 on ultra graphics for an hour, nothing weird happened. The next day after work I tried to start the PC again and suddenly the same problem occurred AGAIN.
When I unplug the new GPU and start the system without any graphic cards installed, it does work properly. But when I just plug out the 6 and 8 pin connectors (so the new GPU is still in the PCI slot), it still doesn't work.

What could be the problem? Is my MB faulty? Is there some kind of short circuit going on with the new GPU?

System:
i7 860
MSI R9 280X
MSI P55-GD65
Seasonic G-550W

MSI recommends 750w PSU for the R9 280X - - will work with less but that depends on how much total wattage the rest of your hardware requires.

The fact that your PC will run okay with the old GPU does rather point to it being the PSU that's not providing sufficient wattage on your particular system -- at least not with R9 280X connected.

But it did boot twice with the 280X and I played Battlefield 4 on ultra settings for an hour. I also tested the 280X on a friends computer with a 550W PSU and it did work properly.
