A couple of months ago, my father wanted to put an extra hard disk in his computer. But after he connected everything, his computer wouldn't start up anymore (this might have been because he replaced it while working on a carpet ).
We removed the new hdd but it still wouldn't display anything, the power led that used to work when the pc powered on doesn't work and only the fans/hdd spin, there is no power on the usb ports, there also aren't any error/startup beeps and the computer doesn't seem to boot at all.
Next we tried to reset the bios, hold the powerbutton for 1 min and replaced the bios battery but nothing seemed to work.
Then I breadboarded the mobo:
-got rid of all dust
-reseated all cables
-I disconnected all unneccesary parts (hdd, cd drive etc.)
-put a working videocard in the computer
-tried to run it without the videocard but the onboard graphics won't display anything either.
-tried starting the computer with just 1 piece of ram (tried all 3 pieces and tried them in all slots)
After that I checked the psu voltages, but everything was fine.
Lastly I tried to start the computer without any ram installed, but then it beeps, so it doesn't look like the mobo is dead, although that might be the part that would break first when working on a carpet.
Does this mean my cpu broke, did all 3 ramsticks stop working simultaneously, or is it my mobo (although it seems to be alive)?
Any advice gladly received,
Kind regards
