PC doesn't recognize audio from 9 pin connector.

The front audio jack on my asus vs-92 stopped working some time ago, at the time i thought I had simply broken something as updating Realtek HD Audio Manager and just about everything else didn't help, in the end I just kinda lived with it. Only recently has it started to bother me so I decided to install a USB hub with an audio port into my 5.25 drive bay (came with new cables). After connecting everything up I tested the USB ports which worked fine and then the audio jack, but the computer still didn't recognize anything being plugged in and i was left with just a low hum through the headphones.
Theres no visible damage to the pins on the 9 pin connector, the cable is a bit tight going on compared to other connectors but not to the extent that it was being forced.
Audio works with all other outputs its just that one.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments they would be much appreciated.

Never mind, I just discovered that I put the new cable in half on and half off the pins cos i'm as blind as a bat with reading glasses, it seems to be working now. The old cable looked like it was on properly so maybe it just died with age or something(?)
Very strange.
