When I plug in my external hard drive to my PC, it doesn't read it anymore. Two removable discs come up, but as hidden files. My laptop can recognize it just fine and access the files as well.

I believe it started after I had a small power outage a couple of weeks ago.

In the device manager it shows up as "Generic-USB3.0 CRW -0 USB Device" and "Generic-USB3.0 CRW -1 USB Device".

Hi there helpmepls03,

I would totally agree with the other guys. You need to go to your MOBO's website and update the USB drivers. In case the issue persists, you can go to Device Manager -> Uninstall the device -> unplug it -> restart system -> plug it back in.

Keep in mind that power outages could damage the hardware components. So, if the aforementioned steps do not help, then you should consider a possible MOBO damage. See if the ports on the back of the computer case work. Attach another USB device.

Cheers,
D_Know_WD :)

So what do I do when all my drivers are updated and it still won't work? I got it to work once, but I had to unplug it because I had to use it somewhere else and now I have the problem again.

It still works perfectly fine on my laptop.
