Hello,

When I plug in the cable, it shows as connected in network connections but does not give internet access. It says the network is unidentified. It's not the cable because I tested it on my ps4 and it works fine. I have tried updating the drivers for the network adapter, deleting the network adapter and redownloading it, manually putting in both ipv4 and ipv6 addresses, seperately and together, resseting the router, factory resetting the router, turning my pc off and on with and without the cable plugged in. I am honestly at a loss, I've never had an ethernet cable that was not as simple as "plug and play". Thanks for any help.

Other info:
I just yesterday got an internet upgrade and new modem/router from my isp, which was the same as before.
Wireless is working fine but I require a hard connection

have you tried a different cable? try a spare known working cable just to be sure.
test the network device in another environment.
Boot to a USB drive with linux on it. grab a USB drive, a copy of rufus and a linux distribution.
http://distrowatch.com/ has tons of differing linux distributions and download links. I personally am fond of linux mint with cinnamon.
https://rufus.ie/ the utility used to extract the ISO file to the USB drive.

use rufus to extract the selected ISO to the thumb drive. it will make the drive bootable and you can run linux from the drive once done.
Reboot into linux and proceed to test the hardware. connect to internet, watch videos, await problems.
if linux is good and stable the issue is most likely inside windows or otherwise software related.
this is a test of the hardware.

if the NIC is working in linux the issues is not hardware based.
if you cannot connect in linux the device (Network Interface Card) is most likely at fault.
