Question pc drops power after new mobo is installed

i recently picked up a msi h310M pro M2 plus and ran into a problem. When the power for the cpu is not connected it turns on fine, gpu fans will spin, case fans spin. When power cable is plugged in for cpu it turns on then immediately off. I suspect it may be my psu as im trying to connect a 4 pin into an 8 pin.

What does manual for MB says about it ? If 4 is enough, it could also mean that VRM is bad.

it doesnt say that four WOULDNT work, im pretty sure i just need a stronger psu. i was barely running a 1050 on 300w with all stock internals. but i got new ram + a mew motherboard, so im thinking that maybe it just doesnt supply enough power for it to load.
