My setup: asus tufb450m, gtx1070 evga, 8gb ram 3000mhz, ryzen 2600, crucial mx500 250gb SSD, silentiumpc 600W Vero L2 bronze

I built this PC about 6 months ago, the SSD, PSU and ram are new, the rest is used but still on warranty. About a week ago, while I was installing Witcher 3, my PC froze during the installation. I found it weird, so I restarted the PC, started the setup again, and during random places of installation the whole PC would just freeze, like "it's on, fans are spinning but it's unresponsive" freeze. I borrowed my friend's gog account, downloaded it there and it installed fine. About an hour ago I felt like playing Rust, so I started downloading it on Steam, and I think that the games automatically install when downloading from Steam, so after watching a youtube video with the downloading in the background, the PC froze. I restarted it, checked the progress on Rust and it was like 20% so it continued to download, but after a minute or two the PC turned off, like someone flipped the switch in the back, like poof - black. It happened 3-4 times until the game downloaded. After it downloaded I played a game of PUBG to confirm that it was related to downloading, and I was able to play the whole game no problem. So after that, I started the Rust download again, and of course it froze.

Unplugged the PC, cleaned it with compressed air, checked the cable connections, used data lifeguard for SSD. Someone on another forum suggested that I remove one stick of ram, did that but still, the PC turned off when I was about 60% into the downloading. I'll note that my SSD usage is 100% during the download. How do I pinpoint the cause? I'll also note that I have been getting the freezes even when not downloading anything, but way less frequently.

I'd recommend checking out crystal disk info to see your SSDs health. It can be downloaded from https://crystalmark.info/en/download/#CrystalDiskInfo
Done that, but I can't tell if anything is wrong.

The next one is perhaps to try the Windows version of https://www.smartmontools.org/wiki/Download
Also, if the motherboard is the TUF B450-m Plus Gaming, then go to https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/TUF-B450M-PLUS-GAMING/HelpDesk_Download/ and download and install the chipset driver to see if this fixes the issue. If not, and the smartmo tools doesn't show anything, then also download and install the SATA driver from the site

I installed the Chipset driver, restarted, then tried the smartmontools but I don't understand how to use it, so I didn't use that one at all. I recorded a video showing what happens.

You can see that until 0:40 information regarding the download, as well as performance on the left is changing, but at 0:40 they stop changing - that's when it froze. I noticed that on 1:00 and turned off the recording. Sometimes instead of that, the pc will just shut down like someone pulled the plug.

Does it freeze when downloading things other than from steam?
Also, I just found that Crucial have their own program to monitor storage, so it might be worth using that to see if it finds any problems. https://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/support-storage-executive
Yes, as I previously mentioned I wasn't able to finish the installation of Witcher 3 from a disc image because it kept crashing, I had to resort to borrowing a GoG account to actually install it.
