I'm looking to redesign my PC airflow design. Currently my CPU has been getting hot and along with cleaning and reapplying thermal paste, I wanted to get better fans and redesign my layout.

I'm going to be picking up 2 of these:

I currently run air filters and it does an amazing job at keeping my PC clean. It's 100% spotless inside and it's been running for over 6 years. However I believe this is limiting the airflow and causing things to overheat. Do any of you run with air filters? Any suggestions?

I would wager that almost all modern PC builders utilize filters on all of their intakes.

While they of course decrease airflow, it is by far better to have slightly reduced airflow than dust, which significantly reduces thermal conductivity.

I do believe that filters reduce airflow fairly little, and any restrictions can be overcome by simply turning your fan up a speed or two.

Airflow is a part of cooling, but can only do so much.

If there isn't stagnant air in your case, it probably isn't the cause of your thermal problems. Think about it, it takes time for the air to get heated up, and having a constant supply of fresh air, along with exhausts - it really doesn't take much to keep the air in your case moving, and that is all it takes. Putting your PC in a well designed case is about as good as putting it in a wind tunnel - the air doesn't have time to get too hot in either scenario.

Depends on the case you have and the fans your have right now.
For the CPU temp it helps to say what processor your using and CPU cooler for it. In most cases you would upgrade the CPU cooler.

Sorry! I have been having thermal issues for about 6 months. At first I thought it was my processor so I switched form a Core i3 (2nd gen) to a Core i5 (2nd gen) and kept the stock heat sync. I still had issues so I got a new heat sync.

The issue is still there. I used artic silver 5 paste if that still matters. Also I am more recently getting a CPU FAN error upon post, I assume that's a mobo issue, the fan still spins and can be controlled via software.

I am planning on updating my rig since it is 6 years old but I want to get my thermal issues under control first.
