So i noticed today as i turned on my pc that for a short period of time my pc would run its fan at max? this is including the gpu fan.

Please help!
Cheers,
Dejan.

Some boards/video cards will run full speed for a short time to ensure they spin properly. This should not be needed with PWM fans, but may still be done.

I know a GTX 660 I gave to my brother ran the fan full speed until the drivers loaded, while a GTX 650 I have does not do that.

I have also noticed some systems seem to do this after a power out. I am not sure if a board is calibrating or what, but after it will just ramp up part way to ensure the fan starts and then adjust down to the required setting.

No its happening while im playing games aswell.
CPU: Amd x4 760k
Ram: 8gb 1600mhz kingston HyperX
Gpu: Radeon HD 6950 2gb ed.
Motherboard: Asus a55m-e
Psu: Coolermaster 650w (Don't know the model)

It's pretty normal for the fans to spin full on initial power up then tone down once fan speed management takes over. If they're spinning up during gaming it means your temps are reaching a threshold that requires the additional cooling. At least that's how mine work. Just idling my gpu fan can barely be heard, middle of a game it speeds up depending on the load.

Yes i realise what you guys are saying. It will randomly just rev for an unknown amount of time. The only thing i could compare it to is say when you are playing a graphicly intensive game, and then close it. It basicly does that but it just keeps repeating like. REV slow down REV slow down REV slow down. I checked the bios. And its still set on normal. Its only recently that its been doing this.

Please run something like HWmonitor or similar to check the temperatures.

My board is set to run fans in a certain range, but if the temperatures get too high it will slam the fans into full speed to avoid damage.

If the temperatures check out, you may have another issue and will require more trouble shooting.

So what exactly am i looking for in the temps?

CPUs and video cards cane safely run into the 70-80 range without issues, but anything over 90 may be an indication of things getting too hot(some older video cards would get into those temperatures, but it is not that common any more).

Now please note that things like HWmon may also have false readings. so something that is lets say 128 or 254/255/256 all the time is most likely an misread. very short spikes may also be a misread. With so many boards software monitoring is not perfect but still very good.

You can also see fan speeds and see what fan is speeding up.
