So, i built my first pc. It was wonderful, an i5-6400, GTX-1060, 8gb of RAM and 2tb of hdd. But my dog managed to knock it off my desk while i was away. Now I'm having problems doing anything. It completely boots up, but the disk usage is always jumping all over the place. I also cant play any games. My fps on CSGO went from 300 to a steady 20 that jumps to 100, just to go all the way back down. I cant tell what the problem is, i do heavily believe its related to the hdd. But i figured id ask you guys what you think.

Hey there again, @Dzopf787!

Did you try reseating the components inside your PC? Did it improve the performance or not? I'd advise you to always backup your files somewhere off-site to avoid any potential data loss. Hardware failure might not always get detected by software utilities, so you...
If your PC fell from the desk on to the floor I would actually think something happend in the HDD as mentioned, use a harddrive test software from the company that your HDD is from to check if it's that that is the problem.

Welcome to the community, @Dzopf787!

Unfortunately, the fall could have damaged your hard drive physically as @AqwBroders mentioned as well. 🙁 I'd strongly recommend you backup all your important data from your PC somewhere off-site to an external drive or some other storage device and then proceed with the troubleshooting of your HDD. You need to use your HDD's brand-specific diagnostic tool or a third-party alternative. One of these tools will help us determine the health and SMART status of your drive. However, keep in mind that hardware corruption (due to a fall) might not get detected by the software utilities, so you should definitely make sure you have a copy of your files from the HDD somewhere else as well. Another thing you should try is reseating all the connections inside the PC and even try swapping the SATA cable and the SATA port where the drive is connected. Afterwards, check how it would perform while gaming.

Keep us posted with the troubleshooting! :)

Honestly not sure how to reply. So im just going to use this, my HDD passed the smart test, and the short generic test for the Seagate software. Its going through the long generic right now. But the entire computer is still running so sluggish. Youtube videos will barely even play. Its gotten so bad, thay im using my mobile device to troubleshoot over using a browser. But so far, i appreciate the help. I'll continue to keep you guys posted.

I'd advise you to find another HDD you could test on your system and check how the gaming performance would be. If the issue is still present, the source of the problem is in some other hardware component in the system.
I'd suggest you consider the assistance of a professional PC repair service nearby and let the guys there perform full diagnostics on your computer. They could easily find the problematic hardware and replace it, if necessary.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
