PC for GPU Render

Hello All,

I have read this conversations and found it as a greate source of experiances users. Could oyu please help me with my PC. Im gonig to buy new one and I like whole GPU CUDA render solution. So I searched over internet and as a result of my searching I made (on the paper) this PC:

Software: 3DS MAx 2012, V-Ray
My Work: Architectural rendering, short movies (10-20seconds)

Motherboard: "ASUS RAMPAGE V EXTREME"
Procesor: "Intel Core i7-5820K"
Cooler : "NOCTUA NH-U14S"
RAM: "Corsair 16GB KIT DDR4 2666MHz CL16 Vengeance LPX"
Graf. Card (3x SLI): "GAINWARD GTX690 4GB DDR5"
SSD: "Intel 530 240GB SSD bulk"
Disk: (2x Zrcadlit) "Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 1000GB s Advanced Format"
Case: "CM STORM Trooper"
Power: "EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2"

My Question is whether these components are a good choice in the manner of what today market offer in the Value/Price option.

Instead of getting old GTX 690s, you will experience much better performance with GTX 980s. Each 980 is about half the price of a 690. Also MUCH more power efficient which also means lower operating temps and quieter.

Instead the GTX 690, and the GTX 980, I would recommend the GTX 780ti, because Vray don't support Maxwell architecture yet

Ah... it supports the card itself, just not CUDA acceleration. Thank you for mentioning this.

It's supports but only with the 2015 version :/ with a specific patch :

Hello guys,

many thanks for your answers. You pointed exactly where I wanted. When I was deciding which card to take I was considering the wide of BUS, CUDA Cores and Memory. I was thinking abou these Cards GTX 690 and GTX 780TI. Think that both are greate but:

1) GTX 690 (double Core)
CUDA: 3072
Memory: 4Gb
BUS: 512

2) GTX 780TI (single Core)
CUDA: 2880
Memory: 3Gb
BUS: 384

3) GTX 980 (single Core)
CUDA: 2048
Memory: 4Gb
BUS: 256

So I thought that even if choose the 690 where single core is slower than single core in 780TI, but I will get 6 Cores on which render can be distributed and even I will get 576 Cuda Cores more (please consider that Im going to buy 3 cards). In the different wors 690 is abe to count more in one moment than 780TI.

I was not considering the GTX 980 because it has almost 1000 CUda Cores less then the othe cards and also is weekness on Bus wide, it has only 256, but it is strongest in Core clocks for sure.

I thounght that from strongest to weekness:
1) GTX 690
2) GTX 780TI
3) GTX 980

What do you think?

Sorry, but no difference beetwen an GTX 680 and 690 :

The GTX 780ti, which is near the Titan on terms of numbers of CUDA cores, still better
