Hi,
My grandpa has an old machine which need to be upgraded. But i don't know if it is worth it.
Specs right now:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo e4400 1.8 Ghz
MOBO: I don't know the exact one but it uses ddr2 and is from 2007
GPU: Nvidia GT8400 GS
HDD: 200 GB
RAM: 2x1 GB DDR2 RAM

I was thinking about giving him 4 GB of ram instead of 2 and give him a SSD but for about 100 euro's I don't know it is worth it.
Should i do the upgrade or just get him a new pc instead?

Solution
I couldn't say it will last three years, maybe, maybe not. It might be just as well to pick up cheap laptop. The only problem with going new I see is that it will probably have a newer OS and some folks don't like change.

Yes, he only emails and stuff. But is 4 GB RAM and a SSD really enough for another like 3 years of smooth emailing and stuff? (Sorry for my bad English btw)

If i'd go new, should I get an APU or a weak GPU like a GT 610?

Get him a quad core from that generation: Q6600, Q6700, Q8300 etc. second hand(the fastest you can find that is supported by the MB - check the manufacturesrs website, Q9650 or Q9550(cheaper and about the same) would be best), 4 or 8 gigs of ddr2 and a adata sp550 SSD(no use in getting a faster one as they will all be restricted by SATA2 interface). This should fit inside 100 euro budget.
He'll love it and it'll last him into hte future.

EDIT:
This, coupled with windows 10(upgrade him if you haven't) should last him for email for the foreseable future.(10 years even)

If you did want to build a new system it could be done for a good price with quality parts.
