Hello TomsHardware Community.

I have had problems with my PC for a while, the PC crashes in games at irregular intervals.

Error Description:
Crashes occur at irregular intervals during the game, sometimes with a blue screen, sometimes without a blue screen, and then restarting the system.
In Overwatch it was the first time that the PC restarted without an error message during the round.
Then I played a round of Fortnite, so in the middle of the round the system crashed and the PC restarted.
I had a couple of FPS drops before the crash.

+ Often i can play the games 1-3 Hours nonstop with no problems thats what i mean with "irregular intervals"

* I have had the problem since November 2020 (since the PC was built)
I thought it was the game but now it is also with other games.

What I've already done:
  • Windows 10 Clean Install
  • Graphics card driver cleanly reinstalled (DDU)
  • BIOS updated, chipset driver updated
  • Have the hardware checked in a PC shop - no problems found in the hardware
  • Games already reinstalled
  • Graphics card replaced (RTX 3080 -> RTX 3070)
  • RAM Replaced
  • G-Sync disabled
  • Temperatures are all good
My hardware / software:
Operating system: Windows 10 Pro 64bit
CPU: Intel Core I9-10900k @ 3.70 GHz
GPU: RTX 3080 / RTX 3070
Motherboard: MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Carbon Wifi
Power Supply: Corsair 1000W RM1000I
RAM: 16 GB RAM DDR4
CPU Fan: Be quiet Dark Rock Pro 4

The CPU Game Boost is activated in the BIOS and the XMP in the RAM. (Both is activated)

DMP files (Minidump / Memory.dmp):

I say thank you to everyone who help me! :)

i have to assume it included the memory dump since I only see 2 crash reports.

first error is odd. 2nd is an ... old friend? no, not right words...

I could have done without seeing a WHEA error but it does make sense. It shows a clean install wasn't going to fix it.
WHEA - Windows Hardware Error Architecture, its an error called by CPU but not necessarily caused by it.
Can be caused by any hardware and sometimes drivers.
Can be caused by heat so make sure to clear dust from heatsinks and fans inside PC
Can be caused by over clocking so remove Game boost in bios
remove XMP as well
Can be caused by overclocking software - I don't see any loaded.

wonder what shop checked exactly

CPU: Intel Core I9-10900k @ 3.70 GHz
GPU: RTX 3080 /...

Probably the same problem, not similar. Clearly fresh install didn't fix it, just delayed the next crash. likely means its not software causing it.
As chances of getting same drivers (apart from gpu) again are pretty slim

I know they checked PC out but if it still does all this after a clean install its really unlikely to be software. Windows doesn't crash without bsod codes.

last 3 on that old thread all showed Nvidia drivers.

I guess I let Gardenman convert this again before guessing what cause is.

Hey Colif, Thanks for your message!

That would be great if Gardenman take a look do the new DMP Files!

The CPU Game Boost and the XMP Game Boost for RAM is activated, it is possible that this support the Crashes too?

Im waiting for your answer!

Hi, I ran the dump files through the debugger and got the following information: https://jsfiddle.net/53jhpkf1/show This link is for anyone wanting to help. You do not have to view it. It is safe to "run the fiddle" as the page asks.

There is a BIOS update available for your system. Wait for additional information before deciding to update or not. Important: Verify that I have linked to the correct motherboard. Updating your BIOS can be risky. Never try it when you might lose power (lightning storms, recent power outages, etc).

This information can be used by others to help you. Someone else will post with more information. Please wait for additional answers. Good luck.

run this on CPU - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool

Try running memtest86 on each of your ram sticks, one stick at a time, up to 4 passes. Only error count you want is 0, any higher could be cause of the BSOD. Remove/replace ram sticks with errors.

Memtest is created as a bootable USB so that you don’t need windows to run it

what ssd/nvme/hdd do you have? make/model? most have testing software.

it could be the game boost in bios that is cause.

Hello Colif, Gardenman!

I have now removed Gameboost from CPU and XMP.
And am currently still in the test phase.
No crashes so far!

I will continue to test it Before I say that that was the problem.

I'll get back to you for an update in a few days!
