For the past several months, at random during games, my PC will freeze up hard with an awful buzzing sound through the speakers for several seconds, followed by a reboot. The sound is identical to what's happening in this video (but there is no real solution there - more on that in a bit).

There is no pattern to when this crash occurs. It is not at all reproduceable to narrow down the cause. On some days I can play games for 5-6 hours in a stretch with no issues, other times it will happen after only 20 minutes.

It does not occur with all games. I can't recall it ever happening with, say, Overwatch, but of games I've played recently I've had it happen with The Division 2, War Thunder, and the Anthem beta. There is no pattern to what is happening in the game when the crash takes place - I've had it happen in the thick of combat and I've had it happen on loading screens.

I monitor all of my system temperatures and stats on a secondary monitor while gaming and there is no issue whatsoever of overheating.

Googling finds no shortage of other people who've experienced this problem or one very much like it with the same symptom of the freeze and buzzing sound... but a wide range of dubious "fixes" ranging from "replace your PSU" to "lol clean the dust out of your PC case it's just overheating" - fixes I've either already ruled out or which would require me to start replacing parts of my system based purely on guesses and hopes.

Obviously I would prefer to get some insight into the real cause before I start investing time and money into new components. My current specs are:

Motherboard: Asus Z170 Pro Gaming (latest BIOS)
CPU: Core i7-7700k
GPU: PNY GTX 1080 XLR8 (drivers fully up to date)
RAM: 16GB Corsair 2666mhz
OS Drive: Samsung 950 Pro 500GB NVMe
Games drive: Samsung 860 Evo 500GB
PSU: Corsair HX750 (2013-era "blue label" model)

Below is an export of the crash dump from the last time this occurred, pulled from BlueScreenView. My understanding is "ntoskrnl.exe" can be any number of things, and I'm hoping somebody can glean some info from the Parameters which will narrow down the cause.

Hi, please upload the actual minidump listed in the log file above. The minidump is located here: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\041519-7312-01.dmp
If there are more minidumps in the folder, upload up to a maximum of 10 of the latest dated ones. You may need to copy the file(s) to your Desktop or Documents folder first (if you have permission problems). Upload the file(s) to any file sharing service such as Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox. Mediafire, etc. Be sure to make the file(s) publicy accessible (not requiring a login to download) and provide the link to the file(s) here.

Apologies, I thought I had put up a link to the full minidump file before. Here it is: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1aLJkgsWYUT6XXld2vnU9lzqbVNzbEuCo

I ran the dump file through the debugger and got the following information: https://pste.eu/p/Islt.html

File information:041519-7312-01.dmp (Apr 15 2019 - 19:09:47)
Bugcheck:DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION (133)
Probably caused by:memory_corruption (Process: System)
Uptime:7 Day(s), 0 Hour(s), 05 Min(s), and 23 Sec(s)

Comment: The overclocking driver "IOCBios2.sys" was found on your system. (Intel Extreme Tuning Utility)

Comment: The GPU tweaking driver "iomap64.sys" was found on your system. (AI Suite or GPU Tweak 2)

Possible Motherboard page: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z170-PRO-GAMING/
It appears you have the latest BIOS already installed (v3805).

This information can be used by others to help you. I can't help you with this. Someone else will post with more information. Please wait for additional answers. I've asked @Colif to have a look when he has time. Good luck.

I don't want to suggest any hardware replacements if I can help it.

DPC watchdog violations are normally drivers, just need to figure out which.

wish corsair would update their link drivers, they from 2010.. they might be okay, I just prefer newer drivers.
new Intel LAN drivers on Asus web site
Newer version of INtel Management Engine Interface on Asus web site
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z170-PRO-GAMING/HelpDesk_Download/

Should be newer version of Steelseries engine (mines from December)

Having newest Nvidia drivers isn't always a good thing

@gardenman should fix mt7612US.sys, its part of windows (XBox Wireless adapter) and not a 3rd party driver

@Colif thanks for taking a look. I'm a bit confused though... I don't think I have Corsair Link installed? At least I can't think of anything I've ever had in this system that would have needed it and I also can't see it anywhere in my list of installed applications.

SteelSeries Engine I can just remove because I don't use my SteelSeries mouse anymore.

I will look at updating the LAN drivers. The new Intel Management Engine is included in the latest BIOS if I am interpreting the page right?

In regards to Nvidia drivers, I agree the latest aren't always the best, but since the problem has persisted for several months across multiple driver releases I don't think that's the cause? I mainly stipulated that I was on the latest release to preclude anybody suggesting a driver update as a quick fix.

Wanted to add some additional info I've gleaned experimenting since yesterday.

-Ran a Prime95 SFFT test, it immediately stopped with "fatal error: rounding with 0.5, expected less than 0.4".

-Upped Vcore from 1.3 to 1.35, ran Prime95 again, same result.

-Ran MemTest86, 4 passes resulted in 0 errors.

-Reverted all BIOS settings to Asus "optimized defaults" (stock clock speeds down from my OC of 4.8ghz). Ran Prime95 again, no more rounding error.

I also played The Division 2 for a couple of hours after all this last night with no crash, although like I said before, there was no consistency to how quickly or often it would occur so that doesn't really prove anything.

So this certainly seems to point to an unstable overclock? But I am puzzled/disappointed if that's the case, as I followed Asus' official Kaby Lake OC guide, 4.8 is not ambitious for a 7700k based on what I've read, and I thought I had tested with Prime95 when I first did the OC several months ago (it may have been AIDA64 instead but I would think AIDA64 would give me a similar error). Is it possible for an overclock to initially be stable and then "become" unstable over time?

hmm... pretty sure this is part of corsair link

Jul 15 2010 SiLib.sys USBXpress SDK http://www.silabs.com/ - Also: https://www.corsair.com/
Jul 15 2010 SiUSBXp.sys USBXpress SDK http://www.silabs.com/ - Also: https://www.corsair.com/

But I will confirm it

I don't think its related to PSU? Some PSU do use the software but I think they are the AX models. I can't find it references on yours. I doubt its related to the ram.

Do you have a corsair case? What cooler on CPU? Link is part of the pump software for Corsair coolers.

have you ever run a 3rd party driver installer on PC? As that might explain why the files are running, as those programs can install all kinds of crap on a PC.

If you don't have any COrsair software onboard, you could run Autoruns and stop them from loading

I am no expert on overclocking, you could have run Intel processor diagnostic tool as well

I do not have a Corsair case. My cooler is an NZXT Kraken. I do have NZXT's software for controlling the cooler, which is called CAM. Is it possible that might be confused with Corsair Link? I suspect a lot of the control/monitoring software these companies use is basically the same application with a different skin on it.

I have never used any third party driver installer that I can recall and I can't imagine a reason I would have.

Our lists for what drivers are part of isn't perfect, we developed them over time.

So those 2 drivers may also be part of NZXT Kraken software, as well as Corsair drivers. It seems the chips are used in many water coolers. I can find searches for both of google.. so you are right, different drivers used by many makers. It happens a lot more than you would think
