Hello everyone,

I'm having a problem with my PC and this time, unfortunately, I'm unable to fix it myself 🙁

Ok so this is a fresh windows 10 install and my PC is freezing while I'm playing games (Playerunknown's battlegrounds, CS:GO) and I have no choice but to force restart the PC from the power button, alt+tab, ctrl+alt+del, 5xshift, alt+f4, windows+tab etc... won't work, I have to FORCE RESTART the system.

I have no idea why this is happening, I did a MEMTEST86+ for 10 hours and didn't find any error. My CPU temps are around 50°C always and Intel processor diagnostic tool didn't find any error.

I stress tested my GPU with Fumark, Unigine Heaven and Valley and I didn't have any problem. The temperature was steady around 66°C (which might be a bit high but ok). I also uninstalled the current drivers to install the previous ones but the problem remains.

I had a problem with my monitor drivers, Windows update installed the drivers for the model G2460G5 and not G2460PG but I removed the old drivers to put the right ones so this is not a problem anymore.

My SSD is also working fine, windows 10 error checking tool didn't find any error as well as Samsung Magician but I am unable to do SFC /SCANNOW and CHKDSK because the drive is write protected.

I had 2 errors in my eventviewer with ID 7000 and 7009 related to intel CCF which I uninstalled and since then, these 2 errors are gone but I still have 2 errors in my eventviewer with ID 10016 related to nvidia Shadowplay that I am unable to fix.

My PC is :
W10 x64 Home
Gigabyte H97-HD3
Intel i5 4460 - 2.3Ghz
MSI GTX 960 Millenium edition 2GB
2x4 DDR3 1600 (11-11-11-28)
144HZ 1MS display AOC2460PG (with ULMB and G-sync NOT activated)
Samsung SSD850 EVO
PSU 650W

I really can't figure out what is the problem.

Solution

Yes,for sure. Start with the chipset drivers, after that the rest.

If you do the next might there be more info about your ram,

download hwinfo32,
install and open it=click run,
close the top window which is the system summary,
at the left top click "save report",
at the bottom of the next window check "short text report",
after that you'll see what's in the pc,
copy by clicking "copy to clipboard" and rightclick+paste in your next respons
or use cpu-z (freeware) for info, look at the spd tab for that.
I'd like to know alittle bit more about the ram and psu. What maker/model/partnr?

You reinstalled windows, did you after tat first install the motherboard drivers? Then the latest gpu drivers ...
Might want to reinstall the latter, either use the advanced option and choose reinstall clean or use DDU and remove the old first, then install the latest again.

Hello,

Thank you for answering me.

Yes, my PSU is Turbo-X Value Series II 650W and my RAM is TeamGroup DDR3 1600Mhz.

I didn't instal the mobo drivers, I let windows do everything by itself. Also, I never updated my BIOS, I still have the F5 version from the 2014/06/26.

I will try to remove completely the old drivers and install again the latest one. I was thinking about using DDU but I read that windows is not supporting it's use even though I see it everywhere... I guess I'll give it a try.

Do you think I should install all the mobos drivers now ?

Ok so I installed all my mobo's drivers except Intel SATA Preinstall driver and Intel INF because I already had a newer version. Do you think I should update my BIOS also ?

If you do the hwinfo thingy again, but not close the "System Summary" could you look at the left bottom quarter and see what bios you have now? See if you need to update.
Seems that your ram is running at rated specs so nthing to gain there.

Which 650watt psu btw? maker+model.

Hey, thanks for answering again :)

My PSU is Turbo-X Value Series II 650W. I never updated my BIOS, I still have the F5 version from the 2014/06/26 as written on HWinfo.

That psu raizes questions too, doesn't seem very high quality so maybe is responsible as well, but first try to update the bios to F8. This one isn't the newest, but the latest is a beta bios which you only want to try if the other fails to accomplish what we want.

Ok so my BIOS is now updated to F8 version as you said. (that was stressful) and I agree that my PSU is fishy.. I will get a new one today if I can, after checking the PSU tier list here I'm thinking that Seasonic X-650W or an EVGA SuperNova 850 G2 are good choices and affordable where I live. I haven't played yet so I cannot really tell the difference.

thanks again.

Hey,

I have a 120Gb SSD and a 1Tb Toshiba HDD that I removed for now. I have 30Gb free at the moment on the SSD (I can free another 15Gb easily). I want to buy a durable well known PSU that I will be able to move to my next setup, I will update my video card to a Palit GTX 1070 8Gb Gamerock Premium in a few weeks and also try to change my motherboard for a 7th gen CPU but I'm still thinking about all of this.

Since I updated my BIOS drivers I didn't freeze even once but I didn't play much and I had Nvidia Shadowplay turned off. I will turn it on now and play a few games to see what happens.

Thanks again.

Hello,

I had freezes with the SSD and the HDD and I removed the HDD to make sure that it was not the problem but I still had freezes after that.

So far so good, I played a little bit with Shadowplay on but I'm working a lot this week so I don't have much time to do long tests but I still have the eventID 10016 error in my eventviewer related to Shadowplay.

I was not able to get the PSU where I live, I have to order it from amazon but EVGA don't deliver where I live so I will probably go for a Corsair AX series (If I can find it here...).

I will let you know as soon as I can make some more tests.

Thank you

Hey Vic,

Sorry for the late reply but I had time to do some testing and everything runs perfectly! :) I have not crashed even once since you told me to update my bios and install the mobo drivers so I guess that this was the problem.

Thank you again for your help
