pc freezes after 20-30 min being idle and ...

hi everybody, i have a problem for a few days. my pc freezes after 20-30 min being idle or watching movie. hdd light goes red and it begin make a sound like reseting over and over again and after 5 minutes it unfreezes. i check my hdd with hdd regenerator and chkdsk but everything is fine till sth hit my mind. i boot my other os which is XP and in that os everything is fine and nothing happens. i find out that the problem is with my win 7. now what would you think or suggest ?

I would say that either your motherboard doesn't support the os you are normally using or has gone corrupt. Try either re-installing your normal os or try getting a new harddrive, because it does sound like harddrive problem. Try to find out where the noise is coming from.

my mobo is asus m5a97 r2 and this problem occurs recently. the sound comes from hdd. if the problem is from hdd then why it doesnt occur in XP ?

Because XP is an older OS that it might either take longer to crash or since it's older it doesn't require much as say Windows 7 or Windows 10, a lot more is in those operating systems so your HDD will do more. I would definitely say get a new harddrive as that is most likely the issue.

Is it possible there's a task set to run after 30 mins of uptime? Maybe virus scanning or updating something?
