Hi,

I was recently using my PC as usual, playing a game while browsing the web etc. I left my computer for all of 5 minutes and when I returned it had frozen. I didn't think much of it so I forced shutdown and started my PC. I started opening up programs and after around 2 minutes, it froze. I again shutdown this time leaving it for 10 minutes before turning it back on. When I did, the same thing.

I performed a reset of windows through the inbuilt tool as I wasn't able to complete anything once logged in due to the freezing. During the reset, it froze at 10%. I then decided to try formatting the drive and reinstalling windows from scratch. I successfully installed windows then it came up with an update screen which again, froze on 60%. I thought it may have been the SSD so I put in another SSD I had with a fresh copy of windows and booted from that, experiencing the same freezing issue.

I have checked all connections and everything is plugged in correctly. The computer was purchased prebuilt in May so I wouldn't have expected any components to fail so soon. I wanted to see if there was an easier fix than me lugging my computer interstate to get it repaired next week.

It's also worth noting that the freezing issue also occurs when in the BIOS screen. I was looking through my BIOS settings and it would freeze suddenly after about 2 minutes. When frozen in the BIOS screen however, the computer reboots after about 30-45 seconds of being frozen.

I feel like I've ruled out Software and SSD's being the issue here, Could it be a more serious component of the hardware?

My Hardware:
Z270X Gaming K5
Intel Core I7 7700K
16384MB Ram.
1 256 SSB
2TB Hard Drive

Solution
is the GPU overheating? is the GPU cooler clean and the fan freely spinning? check while the system is turned off after grounding yourself.

Canned Grounding Rant-
shut down system and remove side panel. with the power cable plugged into the PSU touch a bare unpainted metal area of the case. (my favorite spot is an unpainted screw securing the PSU) once you have grounded yourself you can unplug the computers power cable from the PSU and can touch the system.
if you move your feet, or shuffle in your chair, plug in the cord, reground yourself and unplug again.
