Pc freezes after cpu upgrade

I upgraded my cpu and my pc started to freeze. I can't even use the bios. But when i put out one ram it backs to normal. If I chance a bios setting and put the ram back i can use it

Cpu : Xeon E5462

Ram : 2x2

Graphic card: MSI low-profile R7 240

Motherboard : G31m-es2l v1 bios updated

PSU : 250 watt

My understanding was a mod was needed to get a 771 Xeon to work on a 775 motherboard, not just a bios update. I could be wrong though.

Separately, it sounds like you have found that one memory stick is causing the problem. It could be a settings problem. I always manually set the memory timings and voltage, rather than let the motherboard do that automatically. Occasionally I've had problems with the wrong settings being chosen by the motherboard. So I suggest you try setting up the memory yourself.

I can't do this. I set the settings and it backs to normal. And i bought it premodded
