Pc freezes and after restarting it shows no bootable device.

Pc specs -
Motherboard - gigabyte GA z87m d3h
Cpu - intel core i5 4440
Ram - kigston hyperx fury
Power- cooler master thunder 500w
Hard drive - wd sata 1tb
Graphics card - gotac gt 730

What happens is, my pc will freeze suddenly, i can still move my mouse but nothing else it'll jus stuck. Thn if i restart my pc. It'll boot past bios thn it'll show massage that "insert a bootable device n press any key"

Even bios wasnt showing any bootable device.
Thn if i restart again. It'll boot up fine but jus to freeze in 10 mnts again.

Now these things i'v already tried,
I'v formatted my pc as i thought it might b related to some virus or smthing but same problem even after formatting.
Even whn i was formatting my pc, it stuck few times whn i was installing window and i had to start installing from the beginning.

I'v run diagnostic /repairs in my hdd with some programs and its not showing any bad sectors in my hdd.

And i'v changed the sata cable.

Nothing helps.

Is my hard drive faulty or this could b smthing else?

Hi,

I just had the exact same problem and turned out that my SSD did not work properly.
I tried different cable but didn't work but now with a new SSD it works perfectly.
I was even able to clone / back up the faulty SSD to the new one and it works absolutely fine now.

Use a Bootable USB ( use linux or windows Live boot) and see how the computer runs while just using the usb. If i had to guess what the problem is, Its RAM, PSU, Motherboard, or HDD. My first guess will always be your system memory is corrupted but you has your checked it.

Edit: Is your BIOS Updated.

It sounds like a failing hard drive but you say you don't find any problems after running diagnostics. Have you tried plugging the SATA cable into a different port on the motherboard? I still think it's probably the hard drive even though it passes diagnostics. It could be failing electronics and not a physical sector problem.

Sorry to ask TDice but by bootable usb u mean a usb in which windows is installed?
And yes my bios is updated.

Gergguy yes i'v tried different sata cable in different slot. Its same.

OH no problem at all. I am here to help you! I might not be the smartest person but ill try my best to help you.

Yes, a bootable USB is the OS on the thumbdrive. I would recommend linux becasue it won't tax your computer as much and you can use a light version like Mint so you can use a 4gb or 8gb thumbdrive. This will just see if all your hardware is fine ( Besides your HDD and you Motherboard Sata Ports ).

Yes, Bootable USB is a computer on the USB ( like you HDD ) without the hardware. This is just to use windows on your computer and not install it to your computer.

First thing - i had an old pair of ram, so i jus tried it in my pc. Still the same problem. So i guess that remove the possibility that ram is faulty as u mentioned earlier.? ( i tried old ram in different slots)

N 2nd, how can i make a bootable usb without my pc.
There is a mac here. Do u think that'll b any helpful!? Coz my pc is nt running more thn 2-3 mnts.

And you should be able to use it to boot on your windows PC

Ubuntu is a great OS.

I created a Bootable drive..
Hvnt tested it yet..
this may be a non answerable question but problem is, My pc isnt freezing every 5 mnt.. but randomly.. It worked whole day today, n now it freezed few minutes ago..

I guess i'll wait till it starts freezing every 5 mnts, thn i'll try that drive with linux..

one last question - should i remove my hard drive before booting from drive? or should i keep that plugged in and change boot setting only?

Jus now i was trying ubnutu,
And it happnd again.
My hard drive was still plugged in n i could access files.
But ubnutu was installed on pendrive.

Does this mean problem is not with my hard drive?

1 more thing. I'v had my motherboard repaired few weeks ago, it stopped working for some reason, n they said ur power supply is prolly faulty.

Could this b coz of power supply too?

Now m gonna test it for the last time with hard drive removed..
M using my pc now without hard drive..
Jus the pen drive with ubnutu installed on it.. i'll use it for whole day and see if that happns again..
If it freez again..
Thn i can be sure that problem is not with hard drive or ram, coz i'l tried to replace thn both..

Update - The first time it crashed on Ubnutu(while my hard drive was still connected) was whn i clicked on amazon,, which after removing hard drive, i tried again, and it crashed again.. So maybe it wasnt same freeze like before but i think it was normal app related crash, i guess i should jus buy a new hd n Try..
