PC freezes for short bursts, then returns to normal and is running slow

Hey guys,

I built a PC a couple of years ago and I'm having a recurring problem of it freezing for short periods then returning to normal, on a frequent basis. It's also running much slower than normal.

I've tried reinstalling Windows 7 and upgraded to Windows 10 but still no change.

It started by making a kind of chirp sound but that stopped and the freezing stated.

start with hdtune and seagate hard drive test tools. with hd tune see if there any warning of errors on your hard drive. if a hard drive controller or mb controller is starting to fail it can cause slow downs and lock ups.

I've run tests using SeaTools and my HD is fine.

Can I also add that both my chassis fans went a while back. I changed them straight away but my case got very hot once. Would this have caused damage?

I've tried running in safe mode and the problem is still happening.

It seems to get worse the longer I leave my PC on.

try using burn in tests see if anything fails.

I ran burnin tests and got no errors.

I did notice that my Bluray drive wasn't showing up in the burnin test and isn't showing in my PC.
