Hi all I got a Evga gtx 1070 founders edition today and after installing it my PC freezes on the Windows logo as it loads, I took the card out and booted up with no card and it loads fine but once the cards in again it freezes. I checked the bios and my board is set to auto pci-e x16 I saw on other threads to check this but it didn't help, I've checked all the connections inside my tower and they are all fine. All the drivers for my old card have been uninstalled my old card was a Evga gtx 970 ftw but I sold it to get this new one but it worked fine when I had it. I also read it could be a power issue but I have a 750w gold plus psu so it can't be that, plus when the card is hooked up it lights up but the freeze always happens regardless.

If anyone could help I would really appreciate it because this is driving me mad now I can't figure this out because I've never had this issue with a graphics card before, but as I've just spent £420 I'd like to get it working asap before my head bursts

When you fit something like a GTX 1070 graphics card, and then boot into the windows os and the whole system does not freeze.

Then you install the video driver for the graphics card, and are asked to restart your system.
If it fails to load windows and freezes at the loading logo other than making it all the way back to the windows desktop or sign in screen.

It means you are suffering from a lack of power being provided by the current power supply unit fitted to your system.
Or that you have not connected all of the required power plugs from the current Psu of the system to power the new graphics card Karl.

So the first thing you should check is that the 24 pin main Atx power block from the Psu of the system is securely
connected to...
can it boot to safe mode? i would imagine as long as the previous drivers were properly removed, you should be alright, but there could be some conflict. if you can get in to safe mode, try to download the new drivers directly from nvidia and save them to your desktop(so you dont have to do this over if you need to try again) and run them. after that hopefully it will boot normally.

Download DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) run it in order to remove all traces of older drivers. Then see if it will boot without any driver. If it is successful then you can reinstall the latest drivers.

If I buy any new components, I always reformat and reinstall Windows completely to start nice and fresh. That would be a last resort, but if that doesn't work then something is seriously not right with either:

  • The GPU
    The motherboard
    Power/PSU

connected to the motherboard.

You will also need to make sure that direct from the Psu the eight pin 12v Eps power connector is also connected to your motherboard.

And last of all any 12v Pci-e connector blocks from the Psu are connected to the Gtx 1070 card where required six or eight pins.

At any point if you have failed to connect any of the three mentioned power points coming from the Psu to the motherboard and Gtx 1070 graphics card.

You system will freeze and lock up at the windows loading circular logo shown on screen.
The reason why is because once you have installed the Nvidia video card driver onto windows 10 is because when you are asked to reset your system, and it loads back in is because the new video driver is being loaded by windows.
Installation of the driver allows the graphics card to unlock it`s power consumption usage.
Where the power draw or consumption will rise and be drawn from the Psu and the motherboard side of the system via the Pci-e graphics card slot of the motherboard.

That is how you know it is a power related problem, due to the video card driver being loaded into windows at the booting process and where the system is freezing every time you try to load windows at the exact same point.

So it is likely either the required eight pin 12v Eps has been missed, or failed to be connected to the motherboard directly via the PSU.

Or that you have not connected the right amount of required 12v Pci-e power connectors also that come direct from the PSU to the new graphics card.

Have a check, and take your time in doing so !.
Once the missing power is connected the system will boot windows all the way to the login screen, or directly to the windows 10 desktop mode ok.
