Since my PC updated with the Windows 10 Fall Creator update around 12/2017, it's been doing a lot of weird things that have made it virtually unusable. Namely, it would freeze every 4 to 6 days. The symptoms include the following:

  • ■PC and Keyboard are unresponsive. Cannot move, switch tabs, type, etc.
■Screen is active, everything that moves (dialogue box "ticker", a video, etc.) is completely frozen.
■Audio doesn't hang (ie when you listen to something like a song or video, the audio doesn't do five thousand stutters per second).
■Desktop tower becomes unresponsive, yet still seems powered. Power or Reset Buttons do not work. The LED light and fan(s?) is still powered. Must be unplugged from the power or turn off the power supply switch to turn off.

There were some steps I did some months ago that I can't remember, but I was forced to reset my PC and "reinstall Windows 10" (some of the Updates were DLed into the HDD instead of the boot drive). This did not fix anything.

I built this computer in 2014 and only once have replaced the parts. They are as follows:

  • ■Operating System
    Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
    ■CPU
    AMD FX-8350
    ■RAM
    16.0GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (11-11-11-28)
    ■Motherboard
    ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. M5A97 R2.0 (Socket 942)
    ■Graphics
    S24C300 (1920x1080@60Hz)
1023MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (EVGA)
    ■Storage
111GB Seagate ST120HM0 00-1G5142 SATA Disk Device (SSD)
2794GB TOSHIBA DT01ACA300 SATA Disk Device (SATA)
    ■Optical Drives
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-224DB SATA CdRom Device
    ■Audio
ASUS Xonar Essence STX Audio Device

As of 5/3/18, I FINALLY organized the wires due to the Noctua touching one of the power supply cables. Some of the cables weren't long enough to be stored on the other side of the case, and some unused wires were tied up and left at the bottom of the case, as seen in this image:

It has been a week and a half to this date, and it started freezing again. After having done multiple things and researching the symptoms to no result, I do not know what else I can do and what else is wrong.

Hi there!

Have you got a bootable Ubuntu flash drive or disc? If not I recommend making one on another PC or laptop, using Rufus (https://rufus.akeo.ie/) Once you can get your PC into Ubuntu you can see if any of the symptoms continue, if they don't then its defiantly an issue with Windows 10 and probably drivers.

If it is a problem with Windows 10 I suggest you download the latest ISO from Microsoft using their media creation tool and reinstall your Windows 10 from scratch.
