Hi,

Recently my PC started freezing and having to be hard reset to work again. This happened more and more frequently until this happened within 10 minutes of being reset everytime.
For as long as the PC is on the temps seen ok.

Since then I have done the standard take every component out and check whether the PC continues to freeze and it did. However, now whenever I turn the PC on the motherboard beeper continuously beeps until the PC is turned off. I'm not sure if this is the same or a separate issue as a result of me tampering inside the PC.

UPDATE: AFTER GOING THROUGH THE BIOS IT TURNS OUT THE CAUSE OF THE LONG BEEP IS THE 'CPU OPT FAN FAIL WARNING'. COULD THIS BE THE CAUSE OF THE LOCK UPS? IF SO IS THE FIX TO BUY A NEW CPU FAN?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Specs (I built the PC about 3/4 years ago and have upgraded some parts since):
Mobo-Gigabyte H97-HD3
CPU-Intel Core i5 4440
RAM-2x4 GB
GPU-Asus Strix GT 970
SSD-Samsung Evo 128gb
HDD-Western Digital Blue 1TB
PSU-Seasonic SS-520GB Actove PFC F3 (S12II-520Bronze)

1| How old is your system?
2| Have you made sure your motherboard BIOS is up to date?
3| Does the system lock up when you tax the system or when it's idling at desktop GUI?
4| Speaking of GUI, what OS are you on?
5| I'm assuming your sticks of ram are in their necessary slots, 1 + 2? Mind sharing the specs of the ram sticks? Are they from a kit or mix and match?
6| Have you tried running memtest86 for at least 10 passes?

1. The system is about 4 years old but cleaned and maintained regularly
2. Good point, i'll look into that now.
3. Yeah the lock ups do occur when idling on desktop
4. Windows 10 64 bit
5. Yeah the RAM sticks are in the right slots (although i've also tried each indivdually). Ram is Corsair Vengeance LP CML8GX3M2A 8gb (2x4gb) kit.
6. I have ran memtest86 on each individual stick of RAM (as well as together) for 6 passes but will do 10 overnight tonight.

Thank you,
Lutfij

Question from Jonjonth : "System Lock Ups and "CPU OPT Fan Fail Warning"?"

Hi,

Recently my PC started locking up and having to be hard reset to work again. This happened more and more frequently until this happened within 10 minutes of being reset every time. The lock ups happen in a relatively similar amount of time regardless of system strain (from idling on desktop to stress testing).

As far as I can see the PC is on the temps seen ok up until the time of the crash.

After updating the BIOS to the latest version and turning on and off the various warning options in BIOS there is a constant beep when the "CPU OPT Fan Fail Warning" is active. Could the problem be just needing a new fan or is the damage elsewhere?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Jon.

Current Spec (I built the PC about 3/4 years ago and have upgraded some parts since):
Mobo-Gigabyte H97-D3H
CPU-Intel Core i5 4440
RAM-Corsair Vengeance LP CML8GX3M2A 8gb (2x4gb) kit.
GPU-Asus Strix GT 970
SSD-Samsung Evo 128gb
HDD-Western Digital Blue 1TB
PSU-Seasonic SS-520GB Actove PFC F3 (S12II-520Bronze)

I have also run 10 passes of Memtest86 on each stick of RAM with no faults so 98% sure its not that.
