PC freezes trying to install Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1

Hello everyone so i wanted to play Life Is Strange on steam and it started the setup to install the required drivers or what ever and my computer just freezed while trying to install Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1
Then i tryed downloading the intall from microsofts website and the same thing happened.

So what does that thing you call a computer have inside of it? And which of the many versions of windows is on it?

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 840 Processor 3.20GHz
8GB RAM
GeForce 760 2GB
Samsung Pro 840 SSD 250GB
and one more harddrive for random storage
I had it installed earlyer so i tryed uninstaling it and intalling it didnt work.

Is that copy of windows registered with a legit key?

We always ask if it legit because usually when they are not are the reason a lot of folks have issues updating there windows os.

I'm looking at your system.. I see fairly old hardware, and then there is this $200 copy of Windows.

My guess is that it probably left some junk in the registry when you uninstalled it. And the new installation is seeing that, and its locking up for some unknown reason.

I think the first thing I would try would be to run CCleaner on your system. One of the many things it does is to clear out unneeded registry entries. They have a free version that you can grab.

It seems you are not the only one with problems installing Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1... But after spending about 20 minutes reading various posts on the microsoft forums, I have not seen any of their suggestions marked as being the solution.

If CCleaner doesn't do the job, you might need to ask Steam about this. Im sure they have run into this a lot more than we have.
