[SOLVED] PC freezes when downloading steam games

When I download games on steam my computer will freeze and require a restart. However this only happens if I leave the download idle. If I play another game while the download is going there aren't any problems.

There could be one or more things causing that issue.
It could be an issue with the disk, antivirus, sleep and power management, etc

It could be an antivirus such as Windows Defender.
In case that is your issue, try adding the steam folder to the exceptions on the antivirus.

Check your disk(s) health with CristalDiskInfo.

Also try setting the Power Plan to “High Performance” .

Something to try....
Try another Steam server.
Go into Settings.....Download.....and I think that's where you can get a list of servers to choose from.
