PC freezing at random

My specs are :
CPU : AMD Athlon 7750+ Black Edition Dual Core 2.7Ghz
RAM : 2GB DDR2
GPU : ATI Radeon 6750HD
OS : Windows 8.1

At the beginning I had a warning message , "Display driver stopped working" the display would just go black and a couple of seconds later everything would go normal , later that didn't occur anymore instead the display would just go blank and the monitor would turn off (the pc didn't restart), and now the pc is just freezing . I presume it's the GPU , also i have been checking the temp , everything was fine before the bugs . I was using Windows7 I formatted my D Drive and installed Windows 8.1, Also i ran the Windows memory diagnostic tool , and the ram seems to be ok .

Is there any way to fix this or do I have to buy a new GPU ?

Something happened after you installed Win 8.1. Is this an HP or Dell? If so, you should think about going back to Windows 7 and see if you still get the errors

This is custom built PC , i formatted win7 when it started to freeze , and it freezes now on Windows8 as well , I have dual booth (WinXP and 8.1 now )
same thing on windows XP so I don't think it is OS related.
