Hey I do quite a bit of gaming and recently my games have been freezing up and if I go into task manager to try and end the task it doesn't respond and refuses to close forcing me to restart. I've checked the event viewer and when these freezes happen I get a storahci error and a lot of disk errors too. I've googled this error too and it seems to be related to my ssd and there are many fixes that dont work for me. Does anyone know a solution to this? I was unsure whether to put this in the storage section or windows 10 but I went with storage so sorry if this isn't the right place.

Solution
If you look in event viewer look for warning "storahci 129" or something similar.

If that is your error try changing power settings from balanced to high performance.

There is also registry tweaks for greater control here:

Hey there, Rachetz129.

This is the right section, don't worry. Unfortunately those are all signs of a drive having issues. It could also be a cable or a SATA port. Firs you should backup your important information, just to be on the safe side. After that I'd recommend that you try the SSD (or the drive you have your games on) with a different SATA port and different cables, to see if the issues still persist. You should also download the drive manufacturer's diagnostic tool so that you can test it and see if anything alarming pops-up.

Please let me know how it goes.

Now I don't think I have any extra of those cables but would it be better just trying to replace the SSD instead? Its most likely the SSD due to it now having effects on windows itself causing that to freeze too. And the problem has got worse now on most games the freezes are instant.

It's quite possible to be the a faulty cable or a port or the SSD. If that tool does can't show the SMART status of the SSD you could give it a try with a 3rd party diagnostic program: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/tp/tophddiag.htm.

Check if you can update the motherboard's BIOS/UEFI. You could also check for a firmware update available for that SSD model on the manufacturer's website. Also, make sure that you've installed the latest chipset drivers for the motherboard.

Please keep me posted.

Make sure that all the drivers are up to date. Still haven't tried the different SATA cables and port? Make a full scan for viruses as well. Basically if it's not the SSD it could be the motherboard. Perhaps you could take the PC to a computer service shop and get it fully diagnosed, to see if the guys there can find the culprit.

Solution
So I had this happening on another machine the other day.

I tried the registry settings I shared before to no avail.

I was able to get things working nicely by uninstalling the devices from device manager and manually installing the drivers for the storage chipset from the motherboard manufacturers website. In my case it was intel ich10 drivers.

Even though windows automatically installed some drivers from ~2006 the motherboard driver was newer and it seems to have fixed the issue.
