Hey guys. Like the title states, I have an intermittent freezing issue. Happens constantly while playing games, watching Youtube or even allowing the PC to idle for too long. My screen will start to skip almost like its a frame to frame type of thing. sometimes i cannot play games at all and its starting to happen more and more frequent (also affects sound)
Ive tried several things. 1. updating BIOS to version 7C37v17. 2. Checking and updating windows. 3. Updating all drivers using Over booster. 4. Used MSI afterburner to monitor CPU temps while the freezing is happening. Temps don't go past 80 celsius. (usaully stay in the mid 70's). 5.Monitored FPS, FPS stay at a steady 70-120 depending of game. 6. Monitored performance using task manager while freezing was present. Everything was less then 10%. 7. Used defraggler and CCleaner. No Change. I believe its a CPU to Memory issue because when I try turning off PC it will take forever to shut down. I have to force restart by holding down the power button.

System specs:
MSI MPG x570 gaming edge WIFI
Ryzen 5 3600
GTX1080
ADATA SSD SU900
1TB HDD

I enabled A-XMP, while I was there I increased RAM to 3200 MHz. I also disconnected my USB. had it there so I wouldn't loose it. And my PSU is a evga 500w 100-w1-0500. I just made the changes so ill report back what I find!

I would make sure nothing is overclocked. Also if you run HWInfo and post the output here, we can see the voltages and temps you are getting. Also your max and mins. The 1080 requires a minimum of a 500Watt psu. Does your gtx 1080 have two 8 pin connectors and are both connected? All power connectors need to be plugged in. Is the CPU power cable connected on the motherboard? Both cpu power 1 and 2, 8pin and 4 pin. Page 8 of the quick start and page 34 of the manual. https://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/mb/E7C37v1.1.pdf

MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI motherboard, do you have good air flow in your case. What is the make and model of the RAM you are using?

I will most defiantly buy a PSU since it is old. I don't have anything overclocked minus the RAM I had just changed from stock to 3200. I've never used HWinfo but I saved a report. I don't know how to upload though. I can only see a 8pin connector going to my GTX1080, I don't see where i could connect another connector. Also I only have CPU power 1 connector coming from PSU, I do not have a connector (4pin) for CPU power 2. (at least not coming off that same harness). And yes I have good Airflow. 5 fans total and a perforated case. RAM is a patriot viper RBG PVR416G320C6KW

That HWInfo is just way too long. Most people will ignore this post.

If the PC is freezing it's probably not the PSU. It's often a memory issue or drive issue, and when the OS tries to access certain sectors in the memory it freezes up. I would look for a firmware update for your hard drive which may solve the issue. If you have a second hard drive you could try running off of that one for fun to see if the problem stops.

You could run a scan of your RAM to check it. I'd start with the hard drive though and take it from there.

What they wanted from hwinfo was this,

download hwinfo64,
install and open it,
check "sensors-only",
click "run".
you already have hwinfo so no need for a new download, but the sensor window is what they wanted a picture of.

And yes a good psu, other cheaper options that seem to be still available,
RIOTORO ENIGMA 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply vs. ADATA XPG CORE Reactor 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply vs. NZXT C 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply - PCPartPicker
still good choices afaik.

I will perform a RAMmem64 test tonight and post results tomorrow morning. As far as the HDD firmware update. It will take me time to learn how to update the HDD, its not as straight foward like a bios update. I do have windows installed on a SSD. What I think ill do is reinstall windows on the HDD, update it and reevaluate.

Ok, so I performed a RAM test. test passed. I downloaded the WD firmware updater. Was unable to perform Firmware update since is I have windows on my SSD and it asks to remove all other storage devices. I might be doing it wrong but from my understanding that's the way its done. It might be irrelevant but I did noticed when the GPU fans are on and the freezing occurs, the GPU fans will cut out in sync with the freezing. It maybe caused inderctly by something else such as a memory issue but I hope this small bit of information helps

Video card thermal issues could be the cause. Ive seen video cards heat up and freeze the computer. Had to underclock the gpu and speed up the gpu fans.

You should be able to update the firmware of the hard drive no problem. It wont brick anything.

Just received and installed the new PSU, no change what so ever. I then performed a clean windows update and reevaluated. lagging occurred after a day or so. I then re-checked for HDD firmware update, according to driver booster my HDD is up to date. I then updated my chip set firmware, issue still present 🙄

With memtest if you are testing for memory problems you have to run the test for a minimum of 8 passes. Passing lower than 8 passes is not conclusive proof the memory works. Some tests like Tast 7 need to be run 32 tests minimum to get full coverage.

Ok, my issue usually occurs 1hr after starting the PC so I didn't think to run memtest any longer. But I'll put in to 10 passes tonight and update in the morning the results.
PS thank you to everyone trying to help out with this issue. I'm not computer savvy yet, but I am learning as this goes issue goes on
