Pc freezing while stress testing overclock

I overclocked my cpu to 4.2ghz at 1.4 volts and it would freeze while stress testing with prime95. So i tried lowering it and it still freezes, i though my volts would be off so i turned auto voltage on and i get the same thing. I notice that when i come back after an hour or so the cpu temp is always at 82. It still will let me stream and game at the same time for hours though.

Hi, Freezing means low voltage, also 1.4 is quite high, try settling for 4.1ghz on your CPU. Prime95 or any other stress testing software puts your CPU under unreasonable amounts of load for stability and temp test, you can't reach them with day to day tasks.

Degradation is real and can easily bite your butt if you push too hard. I've killed GPUs in the past from trying to squeeze just a little more. The cost of replacement parts is what kept me away from overclocking until I recently built a rig to replace my nearly decade old one.

I took a more conservative approach this go around keeping my Ryzen 7 1700 below AMD's recommendation for daily use of 1.35v (3.9GHz/1.344v). They also state that longevity can start being significantly impacted leading up to 1.45v. 300 MHz isn't really worth all the extra heat and wear and tear, IMO.

The issue was a bad cpu cooler, tried a different cooler and it worked.
