Pc gets black screen?

So I built a pc and it starts up normally everything functions. But on my monitor all i get is a black screen or it says no signal received. Can anyone help? Thx

Are you using an add-on video card? Is the monitor connected to that instead of the motherboard video? How do you everything functions if you have no screen? Just because fans go on does not mean it's working properly.
