This happened to me 2 weeks ago, I couldn't do anything because everytime I tried to do anything on the computer it got stuck on a load time for a good minute. And everytime before this massive slow down, I always heard a sound coming from the PC. So I sent it to a friend of mine to fix this, and his guess was that the previous win 7 was outdated and it needed a new one, so he put an 8.1 version. And he didn't experience any problems after that he said, however as I took it back home and turned the PC on, I still heard that weird noise that it gave 2 weeks ago, and the windows couldn't even boot up at all. I even once got a black screen saying: "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key". So I tried to plug the hard drive out and back in, but no luck, but then later I tried it again an hour later, and I managed to use the computer and still do, however the sound is still there and my pc still gets slow for about 5 seconds, technically it's better than last time, but this is still unacceptable. Here is the sound that I managed to record that is coming from the pc before the slow downs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RYx6Hjb90E&feature=youtu.be And it gives the sound whenever I do something on the computer(loading up videos, play video games etc). What could the problem be?

My specs:
Amd fx 8350 4,0 ghz
asrock fatality 990fx killer motherboard
corsair 8gb ddr3
LG GH24NSC0 DVD-writer
Seagate 2TB 7200rpm
noctua nh-d15 cpu cooler

Solution
that sound I think is dying HDD. Slowdown was from I/O operations waiting. I would backup HDD asap. When this will get more often, system will become unusable and will die completely.

I don't know how reliable it is but I previously had a program called "hard disk sentinel", this program can check if my hdd is in a good condition or not, and I did reinstall it to check if you were right. But the program says that it works fine and is in a good condition. Should I believe what it says, or are you a 100% correct that this error sound comes from the hdd?

Clicking noises are usually the hard drive in my experience, regardless of what any diagnostic programs say.

A new 1tb hard drive should run somewhere between 30-50 dollars. Back up anything on the old hard drive, replace it with a new one.

As far as Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, don't bother with those. Download the windows 10 media creation tool, create a USB drive for another computer, then attempt to install Windows 10 using your Windows 7 key from your coa.

Microsoft supposedly turned off the windows 10 free upgrade, but the last couple I've tried when I worked on a computer for my parents for example, worked just fine with a Windows 7 license they had purchased years ago.
