Question Pc gives black screen trying to join game

Hello everyone,
I built my PC two years ago, and it has been running without any issues until this week. Here's the current setup:

  • CPU: Ryzen 9 7900X
  • GPU: EVGA 3080 XC3 Ultra Gaming (10G-P5-3885)
  • Motherboard: ASRock X670E Steel Legend (BIOS version 3.12.AS02)
  • Memory: G.Skill DDR5 2x16GB (F5-6000U3636E16G)
  • SSD: Kingston SNV2S1000G
  • HDD: Hitachi HDS71010CLA332
  • PSU: Gigabyte 750W (Model GP-P750GM)
  • Cooler: Corsair H150i
I'm now facing issues and would appreciate any advice or suggestions to resolve them.

The problem started while I was playing CS2. My screen suddenly turned black, but the computer tower remained on. I turned off the system by holding the power button.

After that, I updated my BIOS to the latest version and reinstalled the GPU drivers. This seemed to fix the issue for a day, but the black screen returned after 24 hours.

I performed several diagnostic tests:

  • FurMark tests and Prime95 tests showed no errors.
  • I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic, which found an error.
  • I removed one stick of RAM and ran the diagnostic again; this time, no errors were detected.
However, when I tried playing games again, the black screen persisted.

Next, I ran an OCCT stability test:

  • Testing CPU or RAM individually produced no errors.
  • Running CPU + RAM combined caused the system to crash with an error.
I monitored the temperatures during testing, and they never exceeded 75°C.

At this point, I suspect the RAM may be the culprit. I’ve ordered new RAM and am waiting to test the system with it.

Can someone help me figure out how to fix this problem?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

PSU: Gigabyte 750W (Model GP-P750GM)
You should replace that PSU asap! It's known as a disaster by many in the industry. I would source(borrow, not buy) a reliably built PSU that can deliver 850W of power to the entire system, from a friend or neighbor and see if the issue persists.

Run DDU to remove all GPU drivers(intel, AMD and Nvidia) in Safe Mode, then manually install the latest GPU driver in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

Memory: G.Skill DDR5 2x16GB (F5-6000U3636E16G)
You're missing a couple of letters in the SKU for your ram kit. Mind sharing a link to confirm this part?

Also, if you suspect the ram to be the issue, try and source another ram kit and see if the issue persists although you have stated that one stick of ram does not recreate the issue. Run memtest for 10 passes on both sticks individually and then in dual channel mode, with sticks populating slots A2 and B2.

Thanks for the quick reply! I’ll follow your suggestions and share the results with you once I’ve tried everything.

For reference, this is the memory I’m using: G.Skill F5-6000U3636E16GX2-TZ5S.

That is End of Life, which might be impossible to RMA since they come with product lifetime warranty, meaning G.Skill will honor their warranty so long as the product is yet in production. As for the rams, they are meant for Intel platforms. I'd have looked into a ram kit that has AMD's E.X.P.O advertised on it to gain maximum compatibility.

I’m considering purchasing the Kingston FURY Beast Black 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5 6000MT/s RAM (model KF560C30BBEK2-32). Could you recommend a reliable 850W PSU

I fixed the problem by replacing the RAM with Kingston Fury KF560C30BBEK2-32 and the PSU with an EVGA SuperNOVA 850W (520-5G-0850-K2). So far, there are no issues remaining.
