I recently took my hd3850 out and applied some new thermal paste to it...
after doing so I put it all back together and rebooted.
The pc then hung on the boot screen with no keyboard detection. I thought I might have damaged a motherboard chip or the graphics card so I took the graphics card out of the PCI-E slot and then replaced it.
The pc then booted fine...... It did however happen again this morning. So i repeated the process and it worked again!

Could I have damaged the motherboard?
Could I have damaged my graphics card?

Any replies would be great thanks!

OK, don't take this the wrong way, but I have to ask the obvious -

Where on the graphics card did you apply the thermal paste?

I have a system with a Striker Extreme mb. The system is about 4 years old and is used very sparingly. Recently I started the box and the bootup hung. After 3 or 4 times the box will boot, load windows and works fine. But after any time down it will hang at any point during the bios data being loaded. I was thinking that the CMOS battery may be weak but the clock times are right and there is no lost data in the Bios system startup file. I would expect to see that.

Any help is deeply appreciated. Thanks.
