PC is not detecting GPU

Hello,
I'll explain the whole story. I used to have a gtx 760 and an i3 2120 I got expected fps on all games. I then decided to upgrade to a GTX 970 with an i5 3570k. I successfully installed the parts, but I was getting bad fps BF4 around 40-60 on ultra MSAA 0.
I played CSGO and got around 200 fps. Both of these numbers are much lower than my friend who also has a GTX 970, but an i7 4790k. He achieves over 120 fps BF4 same settings and capped at 300 on Csgo.

We looked online and some said it could be the card running at a lower PCIe than is meant for. I tried UN plugin the video card and putting it back in without removing any power cables from the GPU. (of course I removed the one from the PSU). I booted up my pc and the monitors did not have signal. I then used the on board video and found out that my PC could not detect the GPU . I tried installing drivers, but NVIDIA could not detect graphics hardware. I Did not uninstall the drivers before taking out the card which I understand May be a problem.
Thanks,

James.

Solution
Sounds like it has reseated poorly. I would try to loosen of the mounting screws and adjust the angle which the card is in the socket very slightly (and gently). Then re-tightening and trying again with the card seated in the slightly different position.

Also, the PCI-E bus will not be limiting the frames realistically. What are the clocks on both the CPU's? does you friend OC? do you? BF4 is quite CPU limited. What RAM are you running as well? 1600Mhz? and your friend? The fact that CS is platform (CPU) bound (as it will be with older games on modern high end GPU's)shows the large difference between the platform performance.

Solution
My friend and I don't overclock. We both have default cpu clock speed. I'm not sure what RAM we are both using I will check when I get home.

I saw a post about the 970 having problems with running at 1x.
