PC is only detecting 4 cores with FX 8320

I get the same results in the task manager and in various benchmarks. I am running windows 8.1.1 and the task manager says I have 4 cores with 8 logical processors. Also in Unigine Valley/Heaven it says FX 8320 (3500mhz) x4 WTF?!?!?! My cores are NOT parked. I have no idea what the problem is. I have checked my bios with no luck. I have an asus m5a97 r2.0 please help

That's because the FX-8/9xxx chips have 4 cores, each with 2 logical processors. They can be considered to be 4 or 8 core CPUs although 8 is more common.

Ok. I understand that it is 4 physical split by logical to make 8, but when I watch someone with the same cpu do the same benchmark, its says FX8320 (3500mhz) X 8. Mine only says X 4. I tried the msconfig and no luck. Bios perhaps?

Do you get a score that's close to what others have gotten with this CPU? It might be that the number of cores shown depends on what version of the benchmark you are using.

Actually there was a Patch made to Windows 7 and 8 to the Windows Scheduler and now the OS appears to seem that the system is using an FX 8000 series like it is using an Intel with Hyper-Threading
