Well...

The issues basically started two days back. After using CCleaner, it detected a file (which I've seen before, actually), something along the lines of C:/documents/name/cookies that was 'corrupted'. Afterwards, ram memory started going up, noticeably svchost.exe would slowly go up and use up more and more memory (but not as much as it was showing). On idle at one point, ram usage was around 30-40% (while it's usually around 20%, 2 GB of ram, XP). I figured I'd run chkdsk and left if for this morning. It went for a while, and eventually, after a restart I believe, the computer was running but it showed black screen.

I figured ram might be faulty, so I pulled out each one (1gb sticks), and it turns out that's not the case. Tried a few other things, and there's no response whatsoever; the fans run; PSU seems to be working, but no beeps, no display, and such.

I'm not quite sure what it might be, perhaps PSU (in part because its fan isn't running, but eh, I can't recall if that was the case before as well, and given there's a fan just below it, which if I recall one of repairmen put in after some previous issues, it might not be the case), or motherboard, which to me seems somewhat more likely.

There were some other, recent issues, such as with monitor cables/plug, at one point it just stopped working (but it would boot up, could tell because of speakers), and after using err the thing you attach at the end of it to fit it into the second one, I managed to get it work (but a light touch could screw it up).

I can't really test out any of the parts, short of taking out/un-plugging some as I have, so... honestly, I'm not sure what to do, other than taking it to repairman which might take a while, and if I knew what it was it'd be easier to deal with.

Of the top of my mind, motherboard is ASUS P5K, graphic card if I recall GT 9600, and err... that's about what I can think of. After reading here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3443681/time-build-powers-beep-display.html?xtor=EREC-8889

Considering previous issues, could it be that the cable/where it's being plugged is a problem? If so, could it (potentially) boot up without plugging in the monitor to see if it works (sound)?

Solution
Yeah try to see if you get any sound of your system booting up into windows, if so then there's some issue with your monitor, probably the cable since that happened before.
