My friends power supply started smoking and sparking while he was gaming.
It was unbranded and rated for 450W.
I went and picked up a EVGA BQ 750W for his system.
I went to test everything and I got a VGA light and no signal.
Double checked connections and I even reseated it. Produced the same results.
I put my old 1060 3gb in his system and it booted to desktop.
I went back to the RX 580 and it still wouldn't boot and I still got the light
during this entire process, the fans on the RX580 were spinning.
So I swapped back to the 1060 so I could wipe the drivers and attempt again.
I put back in the RX580 and still got the same result.
I then tried it with a different motherboard and CPU. (Aorus B450 elite and ryzen 5 2600X)
Still got the same result with no signal, but when I put in the 1060 it booted normally.
I then took it home with me to try the RX580 in my system. And it boots up like nothing ever happened.
