Question PC keeps crashing with any game, randomly.

Hi,
I built my own PC a couple of years ago, for work / light gaming usage

It generally works well, but randomly crashes out on most games. Initially I thought this was limited to Star Wars Battlefront 2 which was all I mostly played, it would often crash, but randomly, sometimes playing fine for hours.

I've expanded my gaming horizons and found it actually happens with all games, (generally loaded from the epicstore) Control, Frostpunk, Total war. They all play for some period then stop.

I've taken a variety of steps (usually searching for game specific issues, but now I'm thinking this could be more systemic to the build.

The build is:
MSI B450M Mortar Max mATX Motherboard
COrsair Vengeantice DDR4 3600 Ram 2x8gb
Crucial MX500 250gb SATA III SSD
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER OC 6144MB GDDR6
Seasonic S12 550W Bronze PSU

Running Windows 10 home

I've done the basic stuff, updating drivers, bios
I've run some graphics card test software which didn't overheat or have any issues
I tried underclocking to see if that would help - it didn't.

The PC doesn't generally crash doing anything else so seems to be GPU related.

Any ideas on where to go from here?

My money is on a faulty stick of RAM.

So I could simply remove stick of RAM and see if it plays ok, if not, try just solely running on the other?

That's one way to do it. Although something like Prime95 (or similar memtest) would probably be a more...scientific approach. Even with those programs, you'd end up testing with 1 stick installed at a time to sus out the faulty one.

So I've run Memtest86 and got a pass with no issues. Any other ideas?

How long did 1 pass take?

I generally don't consider it stable until it's lasted 12 hours. I've had a known bad stick of RAM (found in less than 10 minutes via F@H of all things) last for 19 hours in Prime95 before it errored.

what you describe sounds a lot like the issue I've been experiencing for quite a while now, do us a favour, find one or more of the different game generated crash dump files and debug them in Windbg64 and let us know the error those crashdumps contain.
