Hello, around 3 weeks ago I bought parts for my new gaming PC and built it, these are the specs
CPU: I7-8700k
Cooler: NZXT Kraken x42
Motherboard: MSI Z370 Gaming M5
GPU: MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X 8 GB
PSU: Supernova G3 750W Gold

Since I built my Pc, it has progressively crashed more and more, when it was first built it would barely crash, however now it crashed almost every hour. I payed micro-center to get fixed however they ran a stress test on it for 24 hours and did not have it crash once, they said they checked each hardware component individually and there was no problems with any hardware. They told me that it might have to do with my surge protector not functioning well anymore and that by getting a new surge protector, it will work fine. Seeing that it worked for them for a day I thought it would be something from my end, so I bought a new surge protector and it had no effect, it still crashes. I've also tried different outlets, which also has made no difference. My CPU temp under full load goes up to 65C and my GPU goes to about 70C.
I have all of my drivers updated, so have made a list of what situations have the most effect on causing it to crash, however all of these situations will make it crash eventually. The crash typically starts off by showing me a corrupt purple screen with horizontal lines, and then brings back my apps, a few minutes after that screen, it freezes and I cant move anything, but can still hear the audio.
1) It is most likely to crash if I tab in and out
2) High chance of crashing if I leave my pc running and do something else
3) If I do not tab out and continuously move my mouse, this has the least chance of causing it to crash

I have tried everything I know and am running out of ideas from my end, If anyone can figure it out I would very much appreciate it, pretty urgent. Thank you in advance.

Look in Event Viewer and Reliabilty History for error codes and warnings. However even just some informational entry may correspond with the crashes.

And you can use Task Manager and Resource Monitor to observe your system and what all is going on. Open one or the other, slide the window to one side and work as normal while watching.

Do some tabbing in and out to force a "controlled crash".

Move mouse continually for some time - watch. Then stop moving the mouse but continue to watch.

Hopefully you wil be able to narrow down the cause(s).

Hey, I was able to narrow it down to it only crashes when the gpu is being used. I did a 24 hour test where I just have a web browser open playing a 24 hour youtube video and it did not crash. I opened up a game that uses 95-99% gpu usage and it crashed within 2 hours. I was thinking there are three possibilities. 1) My drivers are the problem, so I updated my drivers and it did not fix the problem. 2) My graphics card is messed up, which I don't know how to check. 3) My PSU is messed up and isn't sending power to my GPU, which I also don't know how to check.

Do you see any specific error codes in Reliability History or Event Viewer?

Are you able to try your GPU in another computer or another known working GPU in your computer? Idea being to determine if the problem follows the GPU or stays with your computer.

PSU's can be tested:

However, if you are not familiar with doing so find a knowledgeable family member or friend to help.

What game are you playing and what configuration settings are you using on the GPU? Scale back and determine if the crashes decrease or even stop.

Hey sorry for the long delay, I was trying to figure it out. I checked reliable history and it said it is a hardware issue, I replaced my motherboard and it did not change anything. My last option was to change my graphics card and it seemed to fix it, I didn't crash for four days until today, thankfully my whole PC didn't crash however any game I play can randomly crash and exit the client. I assume it would be a driver issue or something but reliable history is saying its a hardware issue again.
