my pc is currently running on 8gb (2x4gb) of ram, I recently brought 16gb (2x8gb) of hyperx Fury DDR3 1866,

When i replace the current memory sticks with the new the pc fails to boot up, it goes into a continuous cycle of trying for 1-2 seconds but then goes quiet then tries again. I spoke to Kingston memory about this, they seemed to think it was the ram so now have replaced it but i'm still having the same issues. (mind you thy've now given me 32gb (2x kits of 16gb)

SPECS: Currently

Windows 10 prof 64bit
intel 2500k
Gigabyte - z68ap-d3
8Gb ddr3 1333 hyperX

I believe i'm on the latest update for the bios are there are only 2 revisons and the one i have at present is dated arround the time of when the 2nd revision came out.

Please advise

From what I remember Intel doesn't support higher speeds of DDR3 officially- so if the ram is trying to run at 1866 it might not work (not that it matters as ram speed doesn't make much difference to performance, quantity is more important).

What I'd suggest- once the new ram is in, go into the bios and *manually set the speed* down to DDR3 1333 (as that is the highest officially supported speed for that generation of Intel cpu- the memory controller is part of the cpu itself). If that works, then you can look at manually upping the speed a bit to find the max speed it will work with. Don't worry too much if you can't get it running at 1866.

Edit: link to Intel page on the 2500k- 1333 is fastest officially supported speed:

Thanks, when i checked the motherboard specs, it says it would support up to 2166mhz ram, but i thought it would be a safe bet to get 1866, Also as kingston ran the rule over my system they said the ram was ok for the system.

As the system doesn't essentially boot up how could i get into the bios, would i need to make the changes before I put in the new ram?

Do you not get as far as the bios screen then? You could try setting the ram speed lower before changing it, but the change might auto reset it.

Out of interest, have you tried getting it to boot with just one stick of ram? That sometimes works (and would allow you to lower the speed before adding the second stick)...

K i've tried altering the memory speed and voltage, didn't solve anything so the bios reverted back to original setting, currently i've seated the 16gb (8x2) along side the 8gb (2x4) and here we are. mind you this did (now 24gb didn't work before) my pc is recognising 24gb

Will come back and see if it will take the 32gb in all
