PC plays games fine for an hour or two then lags also the connection gets worse, iv downloaded hardware monitor but don't really know what to look for, but I noticed on temperature 4 and 5 its says its at over 100c which is not right.
Specs:
I5-4460
GTX 960 2GB
1x8GB Corsair Vengeance

Solution

If the PSU is overheating that could also cause the issue aswell, same for MOBO. Cooling is a very important part of keeping your system efficient. Try popping open the case and sticking a box fan next to it and setting it on high.( Dont do it long term, thats a quick way to a dusty hell)
Your cpu temperature should not be anywhere close to 100C. If it is, that means your cpu is throttling (slowing down) to protect itself and that is causing your lagging. What is your cooler on the cpu?

Install hwinfo, run the sensor, leave it running and play a game. It should record the highest cpu temp it sees and tell you if the cpu throttled or not.

from what ive seen its when the fans pick up and start spinning faster it lags my game the fans get very loud even when the temps aren't that bad aswell, it also lags the connection but my ping stays pretty low so I don't get it

Im using a stock intel cooler and im looking at the temps of the CPU on hwinfo and it says the max temp the CPU got to was 64c and the max temp of the GPU was 70c while I was playing Rainbow six siege even though the fans were near enough unbearably loud, It also said no thermal throttling was happening

I have a i7 7700k and they tend to run really hot. i have a h100i liquid cooler and i can get to in the 60 degrees range which happens with this CPU.

I had a i5 4400 which is a step below that i5 4460. I replaced it with this when I built a new pc.

Id look into atleast getting an aftermarket cooler

would any of these parts overheating cause bad internet connection, my connection seems to be fine for an hour then when the fan kicks in I start lagging everywhere

No, internet will not affect your temps. And what you're describing sounds exactly like the system is starting to thermal throttle. Try my idea with placing the box fan

I've had speccy tell me my CPU was 152C when it was actually 30c. Sometimes hardware doesnt necessarily reflect accurate information. IT depends on how it 'detects" the thermal throttling. Its entirely possible it could be wrong.

Okay ill just probably have to buy a aftermarket CPU cooler and better PSU which I should of done anyway and see if that hopefully sorts it if not I havn't got a clue, Thanks for the help.

i also agree any upgrades in cooling can help. i have 6 intake fans and 4 exhaust fans :pt1cable:

I don't have any at the min apart from a corsair one at the front of the case so I probably should get one or two of them aswell, still don't understand why the connection gets worse after playing for a while when its fine to start off with

how are you connected? meaning an onboard wireless adapter, usb, pci card?

I just had latency issues and distance issues with my computer as I live in a 3200 sq foot home and my pc is on one side and the router is on the other.

i had an older PCI card and upgraded to a new wireless USB adapter and the range and latency is fantastic now.
