PC lagging (plz help)not sure wat is the prob!

Hey guys i'm kinda a newbie in asking for help on the web and this is my first usaully i solve my own problem but i just cant seem to solve this one and i'm getting annoyed by it !!

Ok heres the prob my pc freezes for a lil moment then resumes frequently!(It laggs like ur playing an online game with bad connection)! eg. "when i play music it starts off fine but when keep playing it scratches randomly!!!" another eg. when i play a game it laggs and i'm not playing online! now i thought it was the hardrive so i replaced it and it works fine !!! But moments later after 3 months it haunts me again!! so i format it over and it only last untill i multitask or install something big!!!! I FORMATTED 6 TIME 🙁 and i dont usually format that much one after the next!!! PLZ help me!!!IDK if its a virus!!!! I tried Scanning and nada, zip, zero!!!

Windows xp
GIGABYTE S-Series motherboard 945PL-S3
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.20GHz 2MB L2 Cache 800 MHz FSB
2gb Ram DDR2 Running Dual channel
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS
500 gb Harddrive S-ATA

I doubt it's a virus. You've tried installing the latest drivers for your motherboard right? I somehow think it's the cause of your problems.

Alternatively, it could also be a software issue. Does this happen in all games, or in specific ones?

Yea i havnt i tried installing the latest drivers for it i've been using the one that came in the box !!!!
but i'll try it and tell u if it solved the prob!!!
It happens to all the games once the lagging has begun !!!

oh yea one more thing i forgot to state! sometimes i leave my computer on for 4 days straight ! does this affect any hardware in terms of temperature?
