I have an older pc running a 4th gen i5 on a b85 gigabyte motherboard.

Recently the pc started losing date/time and prompted me to check bios settings every time i performed a cold boot.

I thought that it was being caused by a dying motherboard battery-so i replaced the existing one with a new battery but the issue still persists.

I replaced it a second time yet again but to no avail.

Why does it keep losing time as well as bios settings despite changing the battery? Is it a sign that the motherboard might be malfunctioning?

Please advice what needs to be done to resolve the issue.

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Have you verified that the power from the CMOS battery is outputting 3V(using a multimeter)?
