My computer loses internet when I switch my link speed to 1Gbps even though I have gigabit speed internet (1000Mb/s down and up) and my motherboard is capable of handling the speeds along with my ethernet cables. My drivers are also all up to date.

My specs are: Intel i7-6700k, Asus Maximus VIII Hero, Kingston Fury 16GB RAM, 500GB Samsung SSD, 3TB Harddrive, and a GeForce GTX 1080.

Make sure to use drivers from the makers website or disk that came with it. sometimes the ones windows gives you aren't the right ones.

What speed were you getting before? 1Gbs NICs can really only handle 940Mbs. It's best to test with two computers on the same switch wired using iperf3.
Not all internet plans can hit what they advertise.

A lot of router's can't handle 1 Gbs speed either. What router do you have.
