I recently built a pc and whenever I turn on/off the pc makes a click noise. It's only one click and not like a constant clicking noise and does not happen while using the pc. Is this normal?
Ryzen 2600x, Asus ROG Strix x470 F Gaming, 16gb G.Skill, EVGA 1070ti, Corsair RM850x, NZXT H500

I understand. It's pretty common for people to reuse the PSU from an older build though, which is why I asked.

So in light of that, I think I'd be talking to Corsair's RMA technical support. Explain the situation in detail regarding the clicking and the buzzing. I've installed a few RM units for people and none of them buzzed or had other than minor clicking when the fans kicked on or off. Explain to them that this is different, exactly as you've explained here. They may say it's normal, but at least there will be a record of it if something gets worse later, and they may just say to send the unit back to the retailer.

You can probably also contact the retailer, maybe do that first, and try getting a replacement through them...
This is normal. Many boards with PWM controllers do this. My Hero VIII board, and many other boards I've worked with do this. My Gigabyte Z170 board did not do it, but practically every ASUS and ASRock board from the last three years I've worked with have done it. I would not be concerned.

Are you sure? The noise seems like its coming from the psu.

If it's coming from the PSU, then it's not normal. If it's coming from the motherboard, then it's normal.

Actually, it COULD be normal. I believe some of those Corsair, and probably a few others as well, power supplies sometimes have a tendency to click when the PSU fan relay switch kicks in. I'd get a flashlight, look in at the fan inside the PSU and see if the fan kicks on immediately after you hear the clicking noise.

Might have to actually lay the case on it's side to do this.

When press the power button to turn on the pc there is a silent click and the psu fans start spinning, as the pc loads into the desktop the fans stop. When I turn it off the click is noticebly louder click and fans are not moving at all, might be similar to clicking a mouse? Also I just noticed that it makes a very quiet buzzing noise when my pc is off and the psu is switched on with the cable plugged in. I have to put my ear against it to be able to hear. It might be coil whine not sure.

Whatever it is, it's not something you're going to fix if it's internal to the PSU. I'd definitely check around in the case though to make sure it isn't something else, first.

I pulled out the power supply so i can confirm where the noise is coming from and it is the psu. I tried unplugging the cables and plugging them back and still the same. I contacted corsair and they said they will replace it. Hopefully the replacement solves the issues.
