PC MAKING RESTARTING SOUND HDD OR PSU?

Please I need help on this...
I did a recent ssd upgrade on my pc and made a clean install of windows 7 on it and reformatted my 200 gb WD hdd (after installing win 7 on ssd). And I did all the adjustments for the ssd (AHCI, optimizations, etc.). And I use the old hdd for storage and installation for other programs that dont need the speed of ssd.

My pc makes a sound as if it just restarted or just powered on. It makes the sound but my system doesn't freeze or restart since win 7 is on my ssd. Since it happened I started to monitor the temps with Speedfan. Everything was usual (60c on gpu, 30c cpu, 26c ssd) except for hdd which was going from 49 to 55c. And since the hdd's temp was going up I was assuming it was the hdd. But I'm not sure and i need some "pro" advice on this...so please help I don't wanna spend my money on a new hdd...i'm saving it for a gpu upgrade

Please put your best insights/ opinions on this problem of mine

i would go in and check that all the power plugs on the mb and fans are connected fine. sometime when you add a new part you can bump or pull a plug out. a hard drive should not get that hot unless there a short or a gpu fan is dumping heat onto the hard drive. i would take out the hard drive and check both the data and power plugs. the problem with sata plugs and i wish people would send some feedback to the vendors..need to be thicker..the older ide connector could take a lot more stress of a bending the data cable then a sata port.

Yeah I tested it out 4 one night with the hard drive unplugged (sata power plug and the sata connector )...it hasn't made the restarting sound yet. So would you prefer that I use a molex power connector to the hard drive instead of using the Sata cable from the power supply? Please reply ASAP so I can have a good insight on to this, instead of buying a new hdd...which im not happy about...

and the gpu is like at least 2-4 inches away from the hdd and I have one 120 mm fan and a 140mm fan for exhaust on my case...but I dont have intake fans, but the front of my case is perforated and I can feel some air getting inside, i even removed my "homemade filters (fabric softener sheets) from the front of the case in order to maximize ventilation. I even undid my connections and actually attempted for a good cable management (again 2 maximize ventilation). 😉

And if this helps the hdd is a WD Caviar 200 gb (extracted from my old gateway system from 2005)...the hard drive was pretty much in service for at least 7 years is this a sign of aging.

kingston hyperX 3k 90 gb ssd
Biostar h61mlc motherboard
wd caviar 200 gb hdd
SilenX 650w psu (I want to replace this due it being an unknown brand)
Windows 7 64-bit

Oh, if the drive is that old its probably on its way out. Hard drives don't last forever, I personally don't trust them after 5 years of use. They just wear out over time.

if you have room in the hard drive bay i would try move the drive away from the video card. two things heat and electrical field. if the card has a big electric field..it can wipe the data or cause issue with a hard drive. i try to put my drives as far away from ps and video cards as i can.

hmm..it is far away from the video card...i re plugged it a while ago with the sata psu connector..and used speedfan it climbed from a cold 40c (probably after 20-30 min of "average" use) to 53c. I was waiting for the restarting sound, but it didn't happen this time. But the night before (while my lil brother was playing some CoD, the game was installed on ssd and i unplugged the hdd) I asked him if he heard the restarting sound and he said there was none. So I assumed that it was the hard drive.

Tomorrow I'll try to move it as far away from the video card or psu (psu wont be a problem since its prolly 6-8 inch away from hdd), and this time use the 4-pin molex connector on the hdd (this hdd supports power from sata or the old molex psu connector).

If you were in my position (saving money for a new graphic card), would you rather buy a new drive or a couple of intake fans for the front of your case.

Are you being sarcastic 😀 , since when I let speedfan send a report to its hdd diagnostic thingy...it says to be careful since the temps are 50 (goes up to 53 instead of 55c now). Well anyways thanks for the responses.
