if the cmos battery in yuor computer died, when you first turn on your system, will you expect the system to boot up normally to the operating system level
 
No.

Why do you ask? Are you having a particular problem that makes you suspect the CMOS battery, but your system does boot? Can you describe what system you have and how far it gets until the problem occurs, and what the exact symptoms of the problem are? Are you simply losing the date and time?
 


 
Typically when the battery dies, the content of the CMOS goes with it, and the BIOS, needing CMOS info to do its initial booting will complaint, "hey, I need good CMOS stuff, human must intervene." So no, it won't boot into your OS, it will (should) take you to the configuration screen.
