PC monitor not receiving signal

Hey, I just built a pc and am unable to get the monitor to receive a signal.

These are the parts I used
AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
MSI 970A-G46 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
MSI Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB Video Card
EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer


All the fans work, the disk drive opens and closes. I am at a complete loss here. Can anyone help me?

This may sound like a silly question,is the DVI or HDMI cable connected correctly from your graphics card to your monitor
